Sibu Beauty Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review a Sibu Beauty product called Sea Buckthorn Revitalize & Renew, a liquid supplement for skin, hair and nails. I loved the look of the company and their commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices.

Sibu Beauty

Sibu Beauty products all started with a meeting between Sibu’s founder, Bruce McMullin and an ayurvedic specialist (which is Ayurveda, which literally means “The Science of Life,” is an ancient healing science from India Source) in Calcutta, India. This specialist told Bruce about a “powerful holy fruit, the Sea Buckthorn berry” and Sibu was founded in 2003.

Sibu has a complete line of products including: facial cream, body cream, balancing facial cleanser, hydrating serum, replenishing night cream, sea buckthorn seed oil, age defying eye cream and a bar of facial soap. Products range in price: $6.95-$50.90. They even have a couple new products not in their brochure.

All of Sibu’s products are chemical free, contain no artificial flavors or colorings and no preservatives. The company seeks to use the sea buckthorn berry responsibly and in a sustainable manner. Sibu Beauty also practices fair trade in that they offer fair wages to the people of Tibet who harvest the berries, environmentally safe processing techniques and healthy, safe working conditions. (Source: Sibu’s product brochure & website)

The company’s founder is committed to giving back to charity, which you can read more about on their website under the “Giving Back” tab.

Sea Buckthorn Revitalize & Renew

Sea Buckthorn is suppose to improve skin tone and texture, supports hair and nail growth. It is full of Omega 3, 6, 7 & 9 fatty acids. Omega 7 is rare, but supposedly vital for cellular support. It is also a powerful free radical scavenger.

Ingredients: Besides the Omega fatty acids, sea buckthorn fruit puree, apple juice from concentrate, white grape juice from concentrate, acerola fruit juice from concentrate, evaporated cane juice, banana puree, sea buckthorn oil seed oil, natural flavors, pectin, xanthan gum.

Sibu Beauty Review

I am pretty skeptical by nature, but have had such a dry face this winter that I was willing to try anything to help alleviate the flakes and scales! I received a 25.35 fl.oz. bottle of the Sea Buckthorn and started taking it….oh nearly a month ago, I guess. I have taken a tablespoon or so each day, pretty consistently but have missed days and think there might be just the slightest change, maybe. Definitely no overnight differences or incredible results by any means.

By my last tablespoon, which I took yesterday, I think I was finally getting use to it’s unusual flavor. I am not a huge peach or apricot fan and I would have to say that Sea Buckthorn reminded me of a mix of those two fruits. I would literally shiver after drinking it, but I persevered because I wanted to be able to give an honest review of how well it worked. I could have easily given up the first day! ;-) Just goes to show that if you keep trying a food/drink you can start to kind of like it, even if you didn’t in the beginning.

I like the idea of this product, but the ingredient “natural flavors” is always something hidden. While the ingredients are not organic, two of these products have a low score on EWG.org (Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetic site), so that is very good. The other products were not showing up in the database.

Overall, this was an ok product and I am glad I tried it. However, ultimately I think beauty products are a personal choice and we have to find what works best for us. For more information about this product please visit: www.SibuBeauty.com

Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza & Giveaway

Have I mentioned before that we love pizza? Well, we do. Usually we make our own homemade pizza, but we will order out on occasion. We rarely will buy frozen pizza unless we get it on sale and have coupons or something, just because we know we can make what our family inhales…er…eats cheaper at home. We have been trying to buy as much organic as possible.

Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza

Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza comes in four different kinds: Uncured Pepperoni, Four Cheese, Supreme, and Spinach & Mushroom. These pizzas have a rising crust and wholesome organic ingredients, such as 100% real cheese, made with milk from cows not treated with the growth hormones, meats with no nitrates, except for naturally occurring nitrates in sea salt or celery juice powder.

It is a fairly quick meal to make taking 25 minutes or less. The longer it is baked the crispier it will be, so bake according to how you like your pizza!

My Review

Before baking. Our pizza was thawed and I did not take that into consideration when baking, thus we got crispy pizza as you can see from the photo below.

I think we have only ever tried Annie’s bunny crackers and fruit snacks before we tried this pizza. I was excited to hear they had an organic frozen pizza and I have to say that is probably one of the better frozen pizzas I have eaten. My husband brought home Pepperoni. It was very good. It wasn’t as greasy as pizzeria pizzas nor was it the same size as a family sized pizza that we normally get at a pizzeria. This pizza only fed half our family. I chose to have it for a meal two weeks ago while my husband and older children were away at a conference. That was a little disappointing, but I also realize that most families are not our size. However, it only served us two little slivers each. Definitely needed a salad or another side dish for growing little tummies. Good thing I had the younger crew to feed it to! ;) Nevertheless I would highly recommend the pizza itself and if I didn’t want to cook and wanted to serve a healthy organic meal while hosting guests, I would definitely buy Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza. My husband would just have to take a cooler with him to work in the warmer months because the closest Whole Foods is an hour away. Thankfully only minutes away from my husband’s work place.

Annie’s Organic Rising Crust Pizza is available in the freezer aisle at Whole Foods Market (Suggested Retail Price $9.99 for one 11.5-inch pizza). Learn more at annies.com/pizza. And don’t forget to enter our giveaway below!

Enter Our Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza Giveaway!

Three winners will be chose and each will win one coupon for one FREE Annie’s Homegrown Organic Pizza. I will mail them out in 2-3 weeks depending upon how busy I am. Open to USA only.

Preventing Mold on Berries

I had a friend of mine sent me an email about preventing mold on berries.  Not sure if it works, fresh berries don’t stay in our house very long.  They are usually gone before any molding sets in. Here’s the tip:

Prepare a mixture of one part white or apple cider vinegar and ten parts water. Put the berries in the mixture swirl them around.  Drain, rinse (if desired) and pop in the fridge.  The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the fruit.

I can see how the vinegar would kill the mold, it works great as household cleaner.

Has anyone done this and does it work?

Our Review:

We were fortunate enough to get four different products to try: Jelly Beans, Gummy Bears, Sour Berry Bears, and Fruity Bears. Let me tell you I had the best intentions of sharing these with my children…I really did…but they were so good I ate one packet then stashed the rest for myself. It all started when I was watching a movie late one night by myself when I couldn’t sleep. I wanted something to snack on and thought I would try one of the Surf Sweet products. I tried the Sour Bears…they were so yummy I ate the entire package. I have to admit when I first received the package I was skeptical of the flavor I was going to discover, that is why I initially decided to test the product out on my children…but much to my surprise they were delightfully sweet and delicious…not at all like I expected they were BETTER!!!

So needless to say after I ate the Sour Bears I stashed the rest of the candy for my self and indulged for a few days on my hidden sweets! All of the products I got to experience were so good!!! I remember being a child and getting gourmet candy from the Marshal Fields candy counter… these tasted just like the candy from my childhood memories! It was a wonderful taste sensation!

Rally For Real Pizza

There is nothing like the smell of bread dough rising in the kitchen on nights we make homemade pizza. Can’t you just smell it? I can! We use unbleached white flour or wheat, yeast, warm water and salt to make our dough. Occasionally we will put oregano or basil in the dough to give it a different flavor. We will either make deep dish pizza in cast iron frying pans or use the big bar pan from Pampered Chef as our pizza pan. It makes a nice crunchy crust.

It is important to us when we make pizza for our family that we use fresh, all natural ingredients. My older girls and I love to use broccoli, onions, green peppers, red peppers, spinach or even mushrooms on occasion. Really our toppings are whatever we happen to have in the refrigerator when we make it. The rest of the family goes for pineapple, pepperoni or cheese pizza.

As you know, I am trying to lose weight, but I still eat pizza! Our goal is to eat healthier and pizza can be healthy depending upon what you put on it and how thick the crust is and how much you choose to eat. Besides it’s one of our favorite foods!

In the Rally For Real Pizza, Freschetta®frozen pizzas desire isn’t just to taste better, but be better. “Freschetta®frozen pizzas are made with top-quality ingredients and taste-tested recipes, just to make sure your pizza will always deliver Fresch® flavor. “ We have tried Freschetta® and really enjoy their pizzas, therefore can attest to how good they taste. Frozen pizzas are great to have on hand for those busy times when there is no time to make something from scratch.

You can join Freschetta’s Rally for Real Pizza by submitting a photo to the Rally Mosaic on Facebook www.facebook.com/freschettapizza. Each week we will select 100 winners — to each receive 5 Freschetta® Pizzas. On March 30, we will also select 10 winners – who will each receive Freschetta® Pizza for a year!

Weight Loss Goals with Slique™ Tea – Part 2 of the Slique™ Series

Last week I shared my struggle with weight loss and told you my plan to do the Slique™ Tea Challenge. At first I wasn’t sure what that even meant for me. I just knew I was going to do my best to follow the guidelines set forth within the kit.

Weight Loss and Slique™ Tea

I didn’t do too badly this past week. I didn’t get to weigh myself until Friday so no known weight loss to speak of yet. However, I can tell you on my most successful days I do notice that my appetite is less that it usually is. In last week’s post I shared just a wee bit about the Slique™ Tea and how it tastes good and is suppose to suppress appetite and give you natural energy. I can attest that it does as I have been pulling really late nights for the better part of a week and a half now! Usually I can only go a couple of nights before I crash (getting older you know! HA!). I have had a lot to do.

I wanted to show you that I really am drinking it! Next week I’ll remember to show a cup of tea! ;-)

Slique™ Tea contains a blend of Ecuadorian ocotea leaf (natives used it for health and wellness), a member of the cinnamon family, Amazonian caco, proprietary vanilla essential oil, jade oolong tea leaves (antioxidant content), stevia and 100% therapeutic grade Arabian frankincense powder, exclusive to Salah, Oman. No wonder it tastes good!

Slique™ Essence

This week I am going to talk to you about the Slique™ Essence, the second product of five that are a part of the Slique™ Kit. It is very flavorful and I have been putting a drop or two in my water and there is a nice feeling of fullness that comes with drinking a couple glasses of water between meals. Not that I have not been hungry at all, I have been, but neither have I been 100% true to the guidelines. I forget to take my tea 15 minutes before my meals or take my enzymes with my meal etc. Plus I am still nursing my youngest so I am starting out slow as I do not want to do anything to jeopardize my milk supply. I am trying to adapt it to my son’s breastfeeding needs. When I weigh myself Friday, I will know if I have to tweak things depending on my weight loss or lack thereof.

I wanted to show you that my bottle is being used. Notice the yellow stains around the cover on the front and more so in the back, as shown below.

Slique™ Essence is made up of these essential oils: grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, spearmint, and ocotea with stevia extract in a unique blend that supports healthy weight management goals. These ingredients work together to help control hunger, especially when used in conjunction with Slique™ Tea or the Slique™ Kit. Several studies have actually been done on this proprietary blend, which is impressive. More and more studies are being done on essential oils and the health benefits they provide, which makes me very excited! (see PubMed)

Exercise

So far I have not implemented any exercise program, which I need to do. Tune in next week to see how week two goes!

Slique™ Challenge

This is how motivated I am…I actually joined Young Living’s Slique™ Challenge, open to all new and currently active distributors. For the challenge we had to send two photos of ourselves (front and side view), our age, weight and our weight loss goals. I just did this last night. We do have to purchase a Slique™ Kit from now through May and be at the Young Living 2012 convention. At the convention six $5000 prizes will be awarded to those who lost the most weight, if I remember correctly. So every month I will have to send my weight and photos! Yikes! How humbling is that? But you know when I think about a prize like that procrastination kind of flies out the window! Like I said, I have never, ever done anything like this before, here’s to a first of firsts! By blogging to all of you I am holding myself to a higher level of accountability or at least I’d like to think I am. (wry smile!)

There you have it, my progression so far. I survived the first week…or so. Any of you make any steps forward in your weight loss goals? What is the hardest thing you are facing?

Giveaway at Planet Weidknecht!

If you would like to win a box of Slique™ Tea, we are hosting a giveaway over at Planet Weidknecht! Ends 3/4. Thanks for your support!

Tree Hugging Really Was….

I loved all your responses to our Wordless Wednesday post! I got a lot of chuckles! The tree hugging really was about measuring the tree, but it was for tapping the trees for sap. We need to measure the diameter of the tree to determine how many taps we can put in each of our five maple trees because we are making maple syrup! Today’s fun with food post will be all about our fun tapping trees and making our very own chemical free maple syrup! (I know there is really no food shown, but it’s all about making our own and being self-sufficient in providing our family’s food from our land – rented land in this case.)

Our handy little reference booklet.

Maple syrup supplies.

Photo from Anderson’s website.

Yes, we can measure with the measuring tape upside down, we are talented that way! ;)

Drilling tap holes.

Tapping trees was a family event.

Two of our maple trees are in the backyard, the other three are in the front.

Stay tuned for more of our journey into the world of making maple syrup in our own backyard!
