4 Ways to Earn Extra Income from Home

Hats off to all of you who work while trying to raise a family. It isn’t easy, is it? I am very grateful for the opportunity to work from home and still be here for my children. There are numerous ways for mums to work from home with the advent of technology, especially via the internet.

Here are 4 ways working mothers choose to earn extra income from home:

1. Sharing or Network Marketing. This is a popular way for mothers to earn an income and still stay at home with their kids. After all it’s fun to get paid for sharing products with friends! After all we don’t get paid when we tell friends about the movie we saw at the theater last week, do we?

2. Virtual Assistant. This is a way for moms who are administratively gifted to use their skills in helping busy entrepreneurs grow their business by simply doing their office work from the comfort of home. Most correspondence is done via email, instant messaging or phone calls.

3. Blogging. More and more moms are discovering ways to monetize their hobby of blogging.

4. Online Store. Many women run online stores by selling products they have created themselves.

Working from home is possible and is becoming a reality for more and more mums here in the US and in other countries such as workingmums.co.uk and numerous others.

Crowdtap.com

I’ve been doing surveys online, hoping for a “reward”, and haven’t come up with anything.  UNTIL, I joined Crowdtap in the Spring.  I’ve received free Old Navy clothing!  Just last week, I got a $99.00 coat for NOTHING, ZERO, ZIP, NADDA and so did my Mom!

“Crowdtap is the network for Brand Influencer Communities.  Crowdtap allows marketers to easily collaborate with and mobilize their targeted brand crowd of influential consumers for real-time research, collaboration or powerful word-of-mouth marketing.”

Here’s how it works.  You take “Quick Hit” questions to achieve points, by achieve points to gain levels.  Once I got to Level 5, I started applying for Old Navy Sample & Share.  I’ve received free Active Wear, a pair of shorts, and a coat for me and a FRIEND!  Crazy right!?

Transformation – Monday Motivation

I don’t know about you but I am always seeking new ways to do things whether that is in the organization of my home, my children or our businesses. Just this morning I was asking my daughter for her advice on what she finds most effective in keeping all her blogging organized and she confirmed that I needed to go with my gut and resolve the frustration in “My Documents” with our Young Living business, as that folder is getting more and more documents and it is getting harder to find things. Solution? It’s time to create new folders with in the one main folder to get the documents more organized and easier to find so I am not wasting time searching.

The above is a simple example to start with but it can go much deeper in our lives as to what needs transforming. Perhaps it is relationships for you – family or God in the spiritual realm, but it’s business for me.  Or maybe it is home organization for another. I find that now that we have moved to a larger house with more storage a lot of our organizational handicaps we experienced in our small townhouse have nearly been eliminated. (Praise God for that!) The children are older and while the younger ones are still a work in progress they now have a place for everything which takes away a lot of the frustration of keeping things in order. Most days we are able to stay on top of things and keep our home neat and tidy. It is when mom (me!) slacks off of staying on top of the children to pick up what they were using, playing with etc. that things get disorderly. And all it takes is me not feeling like making my bed and everyone follows…..better to make my bed!

Transformation in any area usually requires effort and goals on our part or else transformation will not occur.

What area do you need to transform? What goals are you ready to write down and take action with this week?

*This post was inspired in part by a webinar series I participated in last night for my Young Living business since I am still thinking about things she said and the goals I made for my business.

We’re Back from Duluth, Minnesota!

I know, you didn’t even notice we were gone unless you happened to miss my reciprocal comments on your blog, which were done this afternoon by the way!

We spent the weekend in Duluth, Minnesota working as a vendor at their homeschool convention selling a nutrition curriculum and promoting our Young Living business a little bit. We did sell half our books so that is a good thing. We really enjoyed it. We were able to pick up some homeschool supplies and sign our daughter up for a satellite school for the upcoming year. More streamlining happening around here.

Photo credit: Richard I. Bong Bridge, Duluth-Superior by Travelpod Member Donstevenson (but picture choppy waves and overcast skies!)

The weather was very cold and windy. What a treacherous drive going over the bridge from Superior, WI to the Duluth conference center in our 15-passenger van and high winds! We did not get to do much sight-seeing nor did we get to play outside at their many parks due to the weather. :-( The children enjoyed seeing the ships and waves on the water, as well as swimming in the hotel pool. Believe it or not, we did not get a single picture of the entire weekend! I am still disappointed over that one.

Wordless Wednesday Update

Last week I stumped most of you with my supplements in my Wordless Wednesday post. I started taking many of them when I was pregnant last year with Go-Go boy who is our eighth child. I had severe heartburn and struggled with a yeast infection my whole pregnancy and friends recommended Barley Green and a good probiotic during my last trimester, so those are two of them. And yes, one of them is my prenatal vitamin since I am still breastfeeding. I did not have access to a natural progesterone after the first couple of months and after reviewing Bebe-O prenatal vitamins and not experiencing constipation, I have stuck with them for extra nutrition and hopes of having baby “stick”, which he obviously did.  That’s three supplements down. The others are: flax seed (great for omega-3s, fiber etc.), Omega Blue (fish oil) and Resveratol (antioxidant, longevity and I am using it for a review!)

I have to be honest and tell you that I did not take my supplements for the four days I was gone and have been incredibly tired, even after getting two good nights of sleep. So I am back on my supplement regimen, with the exception of my Resveratrol since the capsules disintegrated in the cooler when its bag got wet. :-( My girls did not hear me when I said I was not going to bring them with us – they are pretty efficient when it comes to packing up our clan, but did not get the memo on this one since they packed up food cooler while I ran errands the night before.

Upcoming Giveaway

Would love to have some entries into a new giveaway I will be posting later today. Thanks to all who entered last week’s. The winner will be posted in the upcoming giveaway post. So stay tuned…..

Business: Motivation Monday

This will be short and sweet because I have a ton of things to do today. What is motivating me this week? Business. We have a last minute trade show to attend this coming weekend, thanks to my client. She asked me if my daughters and I wanted to work it for her and have our own booth beside hers. Me being me said sure! Getting paid and not only promoting her business but ours as well, definitely a no brainer. Thankfully we are non competing or else she would/could not have done that. By the way, I love my clients!

With that said, I have so much to do my mind is spinning! Thankfully, my assistant is ahead in her work and can help me with daily tasks while I am in my business whirlwind. We are trying to get ahead and stay ahead in preparation for the growing season. Nothing like staying busy. Oh and speaking of growing season, here’s recent photos of the plants in the greenhouse:

If you have your own business, do you get excited about opportunities? I do. It seems silly in some ways, yet it must be rather normal too. In most cases work gets my adrenaline pumping, as do opportunities. I think my client has great products that support worthy causes and I think we offer great products that provide people alternatives to managed health care.

So there’s my motivator this week.

Last week’s motivator resulted in two clean bedrooms that were quickly messed up. Sigh.

The Motherhood Creative is Hiring

I have had the privilege of working with The Motherhood team several times over the past year. I still have no idea how they found me, but I am grateful to the person who connected me with them because the opportunities they have provided me with have allowed me to earn extra income and have some great experiences with my children. Emily, Cooper and Erin (Sorry if I left anyone out, but these are the main three I have been in contact with – mostly Erin though!) are a wonderful group of ladies to work with; and since I have had such a positive experience working with them on some major brand campaigns – 77kids, Wendy’s, Scott and more (One is coming up that will last for four weeks!) – I wanted to put the word out that I just read on their website they are hiring more mom bloggers! Visit their contact page, fill out their form and wait to hear from them.

Happy New Year!

Hope you all had a safe and blessed holiday season! You may have noticed that we have been rather silent around here…that’s because our whole family right down to baby has been sick with an awful cold/sore throat/cough etc. So we had many sleepless nights and were sleeping during the day!

Our laptop is not fixed and considering the fact that the computer guy had it for a month and tried his best to find a solution, unfortunately it is unlikely to be fixed. So we are still down to one computer for school and my business stuff. Let’s just say it’s been challenging to say the least. However, we are hoping and praying for a solution and are going to continue to try and stay on top of everything. However, if we happen to become lax, we would appreciate your continued patience.

A big project for the week is researching laptops and computers…again. If any of you have any suggestions or tips, I would appreciate them. We’ve been through this before, but this last time our refurbished DELL laptop (Studio) did not even last a year! Very disappointing to say the least. We had purchased a used DELL Inspiron in the fall of 2007, I think, and it lasted well over two years so I figured a DELL would be a safe way to go.

Our HP PC has been a good choice so far, but I’d really like a laptop since it is more portable. Yet another PC would be great for school work. From what I have heard, Macs are not suppose to crash or at least as often, but they are so expensive. At the price of Apple products I could get a PC and a laptop…then we would be set for work and school! Or at least better off. Sigh.

Gotta love technology! Can’t live with it and can’t live without it.

So that’s my Monday Motivation this week – Getting us back on schedule, techie stuff and computers….besides getting us healthy again.

Organic Farmer’s Business Handbook

OrganicFarmersBusinessHandbookcover

I realize this book may not be of interest to some of you, but in case there are aspiring farmers among our readers or in case aspiring farmers come across us via google or other sites, I thought I would share it. Plus, what I read gives you a sneak peek to yet another side of me and my family.

The book I am referring to is, Organic Farmer’s Business Handbook. It was written by Richard Wiswall, a successful organic farmer who worked hard to get to where he is and wanted to share his experience and knowledge with other organic farmers. The book includes a CD with Excel worksheets that farmers may use for their own business.

I found that Mr. Wiswall provided some invaluable information that both beginning farmers and veteran farmers alike can glean from and use. He points out some important tax info and how to make a profit from an organic farm.

Our library ordered this book when I requested it and now owns it, so I have been able to get it out a couple of times this past year. However, I am hoping to add it to our home library at some point, especially once we start our commercial farm as I really liked it and think it should be on our shelf for quick reference.

P.S. I just borrowed it from the library for the third time! :-)
