Polly Pocket Lea Fashion Collection and Wall Party Tree House

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Polly Pocket. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”

Polly Pocket Lea Fashion Collection 1_edit

I have to admit we do not buy a lot of toys. Easy to understand when you realize and understand we’ve been buying real, live animals instead. Nevertheless, one thing our children have always, always enjoyed is people figures of any kind, which is why the Polly Pocket Lea Fashion Collection and Wall Party Tree House appealed to me for our youngest daughter.

Polly Pocket Wall Party Tree House 1_edit

Ever since we got the packages, Blondie and her brothers have been pretty much playing with them non-stop, except when chores have to be done and they are called away from them. Blondie has been quite generous in sharing her new toys. However, the youngest has been teasing her quite a bit and taking things on her- aggravating to say the least.

The Polly Pocket Lea Fashion Collection and Wall Party Tree House have been a huge success here at our house and I have a funny feeling more will be added in the future if Blondie has anything to say about it – especially when it comes to using her own money!

What My Daughter Likes About Polly Pocket Playsets

Polly Pocket Wall Party Tree House 3_edit

They are fun!

They are fun to play with!

They are easy to carry around.

I like to change Lea’s clothes.

I like that I can put Polly Pocket’s tree house on the wall.

I like to play me and Polly Pocket’s friends are playing around.

Mommy note: The pieces are very small so be aware if you have little ones younger than four.

We would highly recommend a Polly Pocket Playset for the little girl in your life. They are very inexpensive, at least for our children’s birthday or Christmas budgets. If you have birthdays or need a late end of school year gift, we would like to share that purchasing either of these Polly Pocket products is easy if you click on the Amazon Social Store below.

Enjoy! We are! ;)

Pregnancy Loss: Another Angel in Heaven #PregnancyLoss

Please note: I’ve never done this before. A graphic image is contained in this post. My purpose is not to gross anyone out by sharing my pregnancy loss, but to prove to Right to Choose proponents that life does begin in the womb and that a baby is not just a piece of tissue, but a human being fully formed. This is also my personal experience and should not be taken as medical advice.

Just when I should have been able to get a little comfortable in my pregnancy at a day short of being 14 weeks, the unbelievable happened to me two weeks ago Thursday morning. I woke up around 2-2:30am as I have been doing for the past 6-7 months to do the paper route and discovered a pink show upon using the bathroom. Inside I was freaking out. I told my husband, who is very groggy at that hour, and woke up one of my girls so I could just drive and she’d throw and deliver to customers requiring porch deliveries. We bagged in the car to save time and to keep me from having to stand on the concrete warehouse floor for 30-40 minutes.

I tried to remain hopeful during the day but the fact of the matter is…I do not bleed during my normal full-term pregnancies. Ever. Any bloody show has always meant a miscarriage for me. I rested as much as possible that day. My husband went to work as normal, though I feared what would happen if I lost the baby while he was gone. I have lost the past two babies at home, thankfully with him at home both times. I have refused to go to the hospital in spite of passing out several times. Scary? Yes. But for me the decision was easy – be cared for by my loving husband in the comfort of my own home, in my own germ environment or go to the hospital to be cared for by strangers who usually only care about the almighty dollar. I’ve only had a handful of hospital staff seem truly interested and invested in my personal well-being. Oh, don’t even get me started on hospitals either. I hate them. As long as it is in my power to do so, I will continue to refuse to go to a hospital unless absolutely necessary. And yes, I have hospital experience 5 live births and 3 miscarriages all occurred at the same hospital. So maybe it’s just THAT hospital I hate.

Thankfully, the loss occurred after my husband got home. I started experiencing more painful cramping (contractions) about a half hour to an hour after Robert arrived home. With the cramping came the heavy bleeding. The heavy bleeding lasted for a few hours. Yes, I passed our about four times scaring my husband and oldest daughter. I hit my head once because my husband was unable to react fast enough to prevent it. I also bruised my arm somehow, we aren’t sure how. I believe the fainting occurred due to the pain I was experiencing, the amount of blood I witnessed and lost. In two of my previous pregnancy losses, I have gone to the hospital only to be told by the doctors that I was almost done bleeding. Based on that knowledge, I begged my husband not to call, unless absolutely necessary. As long as I had consciousness, I begged him to wait. When I was finally resting in my bed, I made my daughter write out a letter to the medics and hospital staff explaining it had been my choice alone to remain at home during my miscarriage. I listed my history of miscarriages, my births, and any other minute detail I thought my husband would not remember or know to answer, should he have had to call 911. I did not want him being blamed should the worst happen. I’ve read too many negative news stories not to take this precaution.

The worst didn’t happen and while I was weak the first week, I have experienced a lot of improvement this past week. I am in much better spirits from having been cared for by my husband in my own home. We’ve been through so much together and he loves and respects me enough to abide by my wishes. I didn’t need medical attention. I needed time to let my body do its work. That doesn’t mean we did nothing and were ignorant. We called my midwife, we used our essential oils for hemorrhaging to stop bleeding, my husband pushed the Gatorade and water to replenish my lost fluids, I’ve been taking my prenatal vitamins, eating red meat and molasses to get my iron back up and I’ve been resting. I know my body and I listen to its signals.

My husband was scared, but we made it through because…again, I know my body and my history. I should after 14 pregnancies – 6 losses to 8 live births. I don’t really like those odds as my losses are creeping up on my live births, but I am against invasive birth control. I let nature take its course and trust God to do His will. My husband and I would prefer not to have anymore losses and we aren’t even sure about any more children, but we won’t do anything drastic to our bodies or take harmful chemicals to alter what God deems natural for a woman’s body. That’s just us though.

Baby Michael 06132013_1

Michael, was born around 4-4:30pm on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Fully formed. Perfect for being so early. We are grieving. I feel sad some days. But I’ve managed to have a friend over to make goat milk soap with one of my daughters, picked up herbs and veggie plants from another friend’s farm…so life goes on. However, I am still getting use to the fact that I am no longer pregnant. I just took down my little pregnancy ticker that was on my blog side bar. It was hard to do because it meant acknowledging again that I am no longer pregnant. :( Photos of infants make me cry because I know I will never hold Michael in that way. In some strange way, and I am ashamed to admit it, I am even relieved. I don’t understand God’s plan in this pregnancy loss, but I do know we have a lot on our plate already and now I don’t have to worry about how a baby will fit in to all that is going on in our family and business(es). I no longer have to worry about working in the hot sun in our garden beds because I’m pregnant. I no longer have to worry about working hard physically to provide quality products to our farm customers. Yet, a part of me is missing and I will always hide in my heart that I am a mom to 14 – 6 of whom are angels – Hope, Matthew, Faith, Grace, Charity and Michael. Not angels in the true sense of the word but heavenly sent, waiting for that day when I will meet them, hopefully, face to face. Though the thought is hard to even comprehend.

P.S. We put him on plastic wrap since he’d stick to tissue paper. See his ribs, his spine, his ear buds, eyes, nose….he’s curled up in fetal position with his legs tucked up and under, but we do have photos to prove he’s a boy. Just did not think them appropriate to post.

Brother Vs. Brother

This is a featured post.

Reality TV is here and probably here to stay since so many reality shows are popular among viewers. Our family watches a few like X-factor, Shark Tank, Undercover Boss, Secret Millionaire. Then there are others that we just shake our heads wondering why they are even on the air. We have also seen a few episodes of a home buyers show and another one where they go in and demolish homes, fix them up and resell them. They were fun to watch too. If you are into real estate and construction etc. then the new home renovation competition show Brother vs. Brother on HGTV will be of interest to you.

HGTV’s popular property brothers face-off in new home renovation competition, brother vs. brother. Identical twins, Jonathan Scott, a licensed contractor, goes up against is realtor brother, Drew Scott, in this battle of the skills competition of home renovation upgrades and highest increase in property value. The show will also feature other HGTV real estate stars like, Mike Aubrey (Power Broker), Kennon Earl (Selling LA) and Hilary Farr and David Visentin (Love It or List It). The winning team takes home a $50,000 grand prize.

Viewers can even vote for their favorite brother team by using hashtags #TeamDrew or #TeamJonathan Via HGTV.com/brothers.

Take a peek at the show’s promo video:

The show premieres Sunday, July 21, at 10 pm ET with a six-episode series to give us a taste of the Property Brothers skills set.

What reality shows do you watch? And will you be catching the Brother vs. Brother show?

Tips For Keeping Kids Entertained

This is a partnered post by a guest writer.

Avoiding in-car boredom on your summer break

It’s the time of year when we’re all taking to the road with the kids in tow, and it’s time to get your thinking cap on to find ways to keep the kids entertained. We all find long car journeys boring, but for excitable kids with heaps of energy, they can be an even bigger challenge.

PassSmart have written a few tips to keeping in-car boredom at bay, which, hopefully, will keep the dreaded “are we nearly there yet!?” away.

Design their own game

Getting the kids to create their own game is bound to keep them occupied. If you’re going on holiday or a day trip, they could design a game to do with your destination. So, for example, if you were on your way to Disneyland, a) you’ll have some VERY excited kids, and b) they could draw or write a letter to each Disney character they want to meet.

By keeping their mind on the destination you’ll be able to keep them thinking about what they’re going to do rather than the boring journey which comes first.

Plan you breaks

Keeping Kids Entertained

Plan your breaks strategically to make sure the kids get a chance to get out of the car and stretch their legs. The more energy they use up during your stop off, the less restless they will be in the car. Try and stop off somewhere where they can get out of the car and have a little run around. This isn’t always possible, but you could consider taking a scenic detour to find somewhere away from the main roads.

Beware the sugary snacks

The best part of going on a road trip is often the in-car snacks, but try not to let them over do it with the sugary treats. Staying still in the car is tough at the best of times, let alone on a sugar high! Instead pack snacks with a natural energy boost like fruit, nuts and raisins. For something a little more appealing, you could make your own ice poles with fruit juice and pack them in a cooler bag, ready for lunch.

You don’t, however, have to cut out the sweets completely! Instead, try to impose an evening curfew for sweet snacks and, ideally, let the kids have them before you stop off for a break so that they can burn the energy off.

Old-fashioned fun

You don’t have to have an iPad, a portable DVD player and a Nintendo DS to keep the kids happy in the car. Great old-fashioned games like I-Spy or lorry spotting are fantastic ways to keep the kids occupied, and, you never know, you might even have fun too!

Take it in turns to choose a game you want to play and the kids won’t be able to complain about your choice of entertainment. You can even put an educational twist on some in-car games, like, for example, the alphabet game. Get the kids to read license plates and think of an animal/food/country/color relating to each letter. You might be surprised at how long in-car games keep the kids occupied for, and, best of all, they won’t cost you a cent!

Avoid music battles

Trying to decide what music to listen to in the car can be a headache in itself, but there is a way to keep everyone happy. Unless you all have different devices to listen to, you’ll know that someone has to compromise. Get the kids to choose 5 songs each and then take it in turns to play one of their choice. You may have to listen to a few Disney classics, but at least there’ll be no squabbling to contend with!

Finally, drive safely and enjoy your trip!

Our Review:

My children absolutely ADORE Hasbro’s Littlest Pet Shop Products and Toys. So of course they were thrilled when the HUB TV network aired the cartoon series and released their first DVD.  Now they are overjoyed with a SECOND DVD that they can watch anytime they wish! As a mom I have to say that this is a great cartoon series. The characters are engaging and suitable for children…there are some cartoons out there that are inappropriate that I will not let my children watch …but this is NOT one of them! This is a delightful series about a young girl and pets. What I like is that even after the cartoon is over I find my children reenacting the episodes and imagining new adventures with their Littlest Pet Shop Toys and figures. I have three children, 2 girls ages 9 & 4 and a boy age 7…they ALL enjoy the series and the toys. Although honestly I have to say that my girls are more “into” Littlest Pet Shop than my son…but he will play along with them or watch the series and have just as much fun!

Overall, we cannot say enough about the release of the DVD…my household is enjoying the product and will for years to come…

For more information about the Hasbro brand please visit: www.habro.com

The DVD is reasonably priced at your local store or on Amazon.com here for 12.99

We Are Officially Homeless!

Now before you all start freaking out over my eye catching blog post title stating we are officially homeless….it is true…however, it’s only because we sold our townhouse and no longer own a home of our own. We closed on our house last Friday and are no longer homeowners. We are officially only renters. So yes, we have a place to live….it’s just not ours.

Homeless House Sold

We are beginning a new chapter in our lives. We know we are here for another year and eight months since we renewed a 2-year contract in February of this year. But whether or not we move on to find our forever home or stay here remains to be seen. It’s exciting and scary all rolled into one.

We waited nearly 2 years for our house to sell. Longer if you count when we first put our house on the market in early 2007 just before the housing market crashed – it would have been a more profitable sale to have sold it then, but alas, it was not meant to be. We tried renting out our house, we tried selling it by owner and finally we got a realtor in March 2013. It took her less than 2 months to sell it. We were signing an agreement in late April. Then it took nearly a month for us to set up and complete the necessary repairs based on the home inspection.

We are extremely grateful for our buyers as they had looked at all the homes like ours and found our house was in the best condition, probably with the least amount of work/updates to be done. Our appraisal came in woefully low and based only on foreclosure sales in the area. Nevertheless, because of the condition of our home and our buyers extreme interest they were willing to pay above the appraisal price. We are very fortunate and knew we wouldn’t find another buyer willing to pay more than the appraisal.

So, while we are officially homeless in the sense we do not own a home, we are embarking on a new journey and possibly will begin a search for our own farm or continue to rent. Who knows? We are just glad to finally be done with the townhouse and all that went with getting it ready to sell and maintaining it from here to there. Yet a little apprehensive at the same time because we do not know what the future holds.

Have you ever been without a home?

Longhorn Steakhouse – Take Dad on a “Steakcation”

Written By Guest Dad Blogger – Scott

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for LongHorn Steakhouse. I received a gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.”

longhorn-logo

Father’s Day is coming!  Is your Dad a “cut above the rest”?  Forget the tie!  Your favorite Dad really wants a “Steakcation” at Longhorn Steakhouse!

Come on down, grab a cold one and let Longhorn Steakhouse grill experts take care of Dad this Father’s Day.  With a choice of 7 different cuts of steak at any temperature, it will be hard to decide which to cut choose.

After you decide which cut to choose (18 inch bone-in Outlaw Ribeye, Flo’s Filet, sirloin, strip, flat-iron, T-Bone or porterhouse).  You need to choose a side; you can even upgrade your side to roasted corn on the cob (available for a limited time off the “Peak Season Menu”).

Hungry yet?

This was my family’s first visit to a Longhorn Steakhouse and we were very impressed.  Here’s what we ordered.

When the waitress took our drink order she dropped off honey wheat bread that was still warm.  Very tasty, my daughter ate most of it before her dinner came out.

Appetizer – Parmesan Crusted Asparagus (New off the Peak Season Menu)

lh 2

The asparagus had a great favor, was crunchy, and the batter was light.  It had a few parmesan shavings on top and was served with a delicious red chili ranch sauce.

Lunch –

lh3

I had the Prime Rib – My dinner also came with a choice of salad and side.  I chose a garden salad and a side of vegetables.  I prefer my steaks to be rare and it was cooked perfect!  Served with au jus and horseradish sauce.  The broccoli was nice and green and the carrots still a small crunch.

lh 7My wife had the Bold Balsamic BBQ Sirloin, She also got the garden salad, but upgraded her side to the roasted corn on the cob.  She ordered and received her sirloin medium to well done.  Her sirloin was topped with roasted garlic cloves and a smooth balsamic bbq sauce.

lh 6

My daughter had a grilled cheese sandwich and fries off the kids menu.  There was a great variety on the children’s menu which was great.  We have a picky eater and that can be a concern when going out.

We really enjoyed our afternoon out.  The food is very good and cooked to your expectations.

lh5

We ate so much that we did not have room for dessert.  I took a look at the dessert menu and the offerings were very intriguing. The Chocolate Stampede which has 6 different chocolates in a piece of cake and is served with vanilla ice cream.  Another dessert that caught my eye was off the Peak Seasons Menu, The Very Berry Grilled Pound Cake (I’m going back just to get this dessert), it’s a piece of lemon pound cake grilled and served with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream!

Stomach Growling?  Mine is!

So, your favorite Dad is not into going out for Father’s Day.  He prefers to say at home and do his own grilling?  Here is Longhorn Steakhouse’s Tips on “How to Grill a Great Steak”.

Longhorn_Grilling_FINAL

You still need to get Dad a present too!  My suggestion is the Longhorn Steakhouse Knives – Available at your local Longhorn Steakhouse for $29.99.  The Knives are made with high carbon steel and serrated blade.  Stop tearing your steak and cut it with these fabulous knives.

Happy Father’s Day!

LUIGI’s Real Italian Ices are:

  • Fat Free
  • Most flavors are 100 calories
  • Naturally flavored with real fruit juice
  • Refreshing, unique flavors.

Our review:

We found that Luigi’s real Italian Ice live up to their reputation! They are so YUMMY! The Cotton Candy is by far the children’s favorite! We liked that there was a variety in most packs. The packages come in a 6 pack of flavors… our favorite box was Cotton Candy and Sour Apple…we opened the box and it was 3 Cotton Candy flavors and 3 Sour apple flavors. The children wished there was more cotton candy but 3  (1 for each) was a nice treat for the children.

One thing I liked as a mom is that the ices are not rock hard… sometimes I purchase Italian ices and they are so hard to spoon that the children get frustrated. LUIGI’s are just the right consistency to scoop and enjoy!

Our Farm is Growing AGAIN! – Wordless Wednesday

Our farm is growing AGAIN! About 8 or 9 weeks ago we got two lines! (I start having symptoms right away just a day or two late) Nope this was not planned per se and we were completely surprised. We thought our family was done with “Eight is Enough”, but God had other plans….

Baby #9

 BabyFetus Ticker

So far my pregnancy is going well. Nausea has been a constant companion as has the tiredness. Napping has become a daily thing. Since losing our son Matthew in December of 2004 in a second trimester miscarriage – he died in utero at 14 weeks but we did not discover it until 18 weeks when we did not detect a heartbeat – my pregnancies have been rough for me emotionally as I struggle not to worry about losing the baby up until 18 weeks. My worst fear now is a still birth, which could happen. It happens to others, why not me? It’s about the only thing I have yet to experience so I really do not completely relax until I have baby in my arms. Trusting in God’s plan for me and this little one is no easy task. I wouldn’t wish a pregnancy loss of any kind on my worst enemy. It’s a horrible thing at any stage of pregnancy because as moms we love the baby from the time we know of his or her existence.

Our older children are, interestingly enough, very excited about a new sibling. Then again they’ve also been asking for another sibling. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was their prayers that were answered regarding this new baby!

Happy Wordless Wednesday!

Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat Review

britax-frontier-85-29-29b-l

Faith and Family Reviews received the following Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

When I think of the Britax brand, I think of quality and safety. I have read many positive things about Britax car seats. That is why when we were in need of a new car seat for our youngest son I wanted to try the Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat.

Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat

The Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat has these features that I liked and desired:

– Five-point Harness for up to 85 lbs – I have a little escapee and he has not and cannot escape this!
– True Side Impact Protection – extra cushion (see Britax’s website for complete description of this feature.)
– Extra cushion on harness and seat itself – it’s comfy – though my son has yet to say so! ;)
– It converts to a two a lap belt booster seat for children weighing 40 lbs to 120 lbs.

Our Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat Review

We really like the Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat. I like the darker colors of camel and black to hide the dirt more easily. I appreciate the fact that the seat cover is washable. I love the five-point harness and the fact that my son cannot get out of it!

028

Our son is very proud of his new seat as you can tell from the photos below.

029

030

Typically, he puts up a fuss before being strapped in. However, with the Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat, he loves climbing in it and tries to fasten the straps himself. We haven’t heard any fussing or complaints from him about how the straps feel, or how “hard” the car seat itself is, as he has done with our previous car seat.

031

Overall, the Britax Frontier 85 is both child and parent friendly. The two cup holders are sturdy and a nice added feature. The car seat itself is from a trusted, worthy brand, and both my husband are really pleased with it.
