Falls at Victoria Park Nova Scotia – Wordless Wednesday

We traveled to my native province Nova, Scotia, Canada for a month in November/December 2014. It has been nearly ten years since we have been back “home”. We had an awesome visit. It was sooo good to reconnect with my sisters and have them meet our three younger children. It was wonderful to see my family bond with my children and visa versa.

Two of my three sisters each took us hiking. C took us to Victoria Park. Victoria Park has walking trails up a mountain, stairs to offer a more challenging hike, falls, picturesque views, a playground and pool (open only in the summer). Our older children had been there on our last visit in 2005, but our younger children had never been. This is a photo of most of the children overlooking the falls at Victoria Park Nova Scotia. Our oldest son stayed home with hubby to take care of the animals.

Nova Scotia received an inordinate amount of rain while we were home, especially my hometown. Farm fields were flooding, the rivers were high, lawns were saturated and as you can see, the falls at Victoria Park were roaring. Can you believe we were without jackets almost in the middle of December?! We have never been hiking in December, let alone hiking twice in the span of a week and a half!

#39 Saturday Top Five Laughs

Saturdays Top Laughs dentistmelsbbutton-11

It’s been a long time since I have last posted a Saturday Top Five Laughs post. Our last minute trip to Nova Scotia kind of threw me off. Without further adieu let’s join
The Mommyhood Chronicles for Saturday Top Five Laughs – week #39 (for us)!

5. Someone older in our family tried to eat a cheese stick with plastic on!!

4. While we were traveling to Canada, our youngest had a melt down. So we called my husband, who talked to him for five to ten minutes. There was complete silence on my youngest’s end, until we realized he’d fallen asleep!

3. My son passed gas on me and when he couldn’t do it again, said he wasted all his farts earlier.

2. Several of our children kept mixing up the names of family members and calling them Nanny B (a combination of Nanny and their Uncle’s name) Aunt B (really their uncle’s name) and Uncle C (really their aunt’s name.)

1. Youngest daughter: Can I have a cheesestick?
Youngest son: I’ll get it my lady.
Youngest son: *bringing it to her* Here you go my lady.

And that’s a wrap for this week!

Just wanted to pop on and wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas from all of us here at Faith and Family Reviews! We hope you remember the true meaning of Christmas.

FFR Reflection of trees on water in NS

This photo reminds me of a water color painting but it is one I took with my iPhone on a hike in Nova Scotia on December 1st – I think it is a beautiful view and it was more so in person. More about our trip in the new year!

Movie Monday: Big Hero 6 Movie

bigHero6539609bbe6af9

Over the weekend Big Hero 6 opened in theaters across the nation. We do not go to the theater very often but are so glad we made it to Big Hero 6. Our town’s 7pm show was sold out of tickets so we opted to go see the 3D version of Big Hero 6 since there were still seats available. It did not disappoint. I was hesitant to go to the 7pm show because it was so close to our two youngest bedtime, but our four year old sat in his seat with his 3D glasses on mesmerized. He looked so cute when I glanced over at him! We all LOVED the movie. It made us laugh and cry. It is a great family movie.

About Big Hero 6

With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”).

Baymax was a loveable character. “Baymax is 6 feet tall and 75 pounds—until Hiro mechs him out. Baymax, in his super suit, is more than 7 feet tall and can lift 1000 pounds. ‘He’s all air,’ says head of animation Zach Parrish.”

If you have not gone to see Big Hero 6 yet, we highly recommend you do!

Don’t forget to check out the trailer!

#37 Saturday Top Five Laughs

Saturdays Top Laughs dentistmelsbbutton-11

I slacked off from doing my Saturday Top Five Laughs posts for the past month because life has had me in a whirlwind and to be honest there has been very little thought to what has been funny lately. Weird how our thoughts and circumstances can rob us of every day joy and laughter. Thought it was time to step up and re-join The Mommyhood Chronicles on week #37 (for us)!

5. Our six year old asked who invented kissing or why do people kiss? And before I could respond, our four year old said, “Because them married.” Nice logic, eh?

4. Our 14 year old daughter got peed on by one of our cats and said she now smelled like dead mice. Our 15 year old daughter told her it was because it (the pee) was MADE of dead mice.

3. Our 15 year old was feeding her baby goat raspberries and because B was not feeding him fast enough, he jumped up on her as if to say, “Come on, I’m hungry!” It was cute.

2. Hermes, our calf, has been giving the girls milk kisses and slobber at milking. They are milking twice a day and he has his side and they have their side. He seems to be finally getting use to them and is showing his affection! O got milk slobber in her hair this morning when Hermes sucked on her hair! Silly calf!

1. My little 11 month old niece cried when my mom’s dog sniffed her! Poor little thing, but I did have a chuckle.

First Milking Experience – Wordless Wednesday

I always said B’s first milking experience was when we visited a working farm in Schaumburg, IL called, Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley…but then I came across this photo not too long ago. It is funny because it kind of predicted the future. What was a fun little homeschool activity turned into what real life would be like 12-13 years down the road. B milking, B has the bonnet on, with O helping her. O is standing at the chair by B’s side.

FFR B's first milking experience

By the way the Volkening Heritage Farm is an awesome place to visit as a family. For a few years we went there after an early 8:30am morning church service and visited the farm. Some Sundays we just walked, other Sundays we participated in farm events. One of which was B’s first time milking a real, live cow. She went to its tail first! She was only four at the time and had never been around a cow. It still makes us chuckle.

Gotta love memories, eh? What memory made you smile this week.

Fall Fun – Wordless Wednesday

Our children have always loved playing in the leaves in the fall. When they were really little they had to go to grandma’s or the park to play in them. This year is no different even with a few of them in their teens! They have just as much fun as they did when they were younger. Our boys pretended the leaf pile was a ship today and used the rakes poking out of the leaves to be their cannons or guns. Pretty clever. Glad they still have an imagination!

P.S. They appear closer to the road than they actually are because there is a dipped stretch of grass between the lawn and the shoulder of the road. Our children are usually not allowed to play out in the front yard. However, we have more trees out front than out back so for fall fun and under supervision they can.

Missing Calf – Wordless Wednesday

Loony Acres Comet-Calf Nursing 100114

Missing Calf – Crazy Calf and Cow Escapades!

Our new calf went missing for 24 hours over the weekend. Thankfully, we found him and brought him back safe and sound. The “crew” found him at our neighbors 3-4 houses down. Not a mark on him. But what a scare! Now he and his mama are locked in their stall until we can get the electric fencing fixed, powerful enough and calf proof.

Then our older cow, Miss Moo, went into heat about a week early. We had someone tell us that the smell of Comet (our heifer that gave birth) could have triggered her heat. The farm who is willing to take her to their farm for a date with their bull could not come and get her due to their trailer being full of hay. So in two weeks Miss Moo will get her date with a bull! Anyhoo, this heat made Moo crazier than normal. She has been charging through fencing, chasing cars – our pasture runs along a busy rural road and she was running with the cars back and forth! She was trying to mate anything and everything not tied down or so it seemed. We had to separate her from Comet so Comet and the calf wouldn’t get hurt.

We really think Miss Moo has calf fever! She really wants a calf it seems. Here’s to hoping her date with the bull goes very well in a couple of weeks! Had an online friend call both these situations “cowrazy” funny or what?!
