Food Network Star Helps Other Cooks Hone their Culinary Talents

Whether it’s that crowd-pleasing appetizer or your family’s favorite casserole, every great recipe has a go-to ingredient that provides a special touch and creates an inspired flavor. That’s why Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Food Network star Paula Deen have teamed up to host the Real Women of Philadelphia community and casting competition on www.PaulaDeen.com/RealWomen. Home cooks across the country are invited to share how they bring everyday dishes to life with Philly for a chance to win $25,000 and be named one of the Real Women of Philadelphia.

On March 22, cooks began visiting www.PaulaDeen.com/RealWomen to join the Real Women of Philadelphia community and on March 29 they started submitting video auditions showcasing how they use Philly in their favorite dishes – whether it’s their secret ingredient for smooth mashed potatoes or the perfect creamy pasta sauce. Paula has joined the fun too and has posted weekly videos sharing how she prepares her favorite recipes, along with her down-home ideas, tips and tricks.

“I love to take a traditional meal and give it my own twist by adding a new and unexpected ingredient like Philly,” said Paula Deen. “Since I got my start through hard work and determination, I jumped at the chance to give talented home cooks the opportunity to shine through the Real Women of Philadelphia community.”

Based on their videos, 16 lucky finalists have been invited to a live cook-off with Paula in Savannah, Georgia. Each contestant’s recipe will be judged by Paula and her friends and four lucky ladies will be named the Real Women of Philadelphia – winning $25,000 and the opportunity to host their own weekly online cooking show on www.PaulaDeen.com/RealWomen. In addition, these four women will get the chance to contribute to a cookbook highlighting the community’s favorite cream cheese recipes.

Visit www.PaulaDeen.com/RealWomen to find the complete details about the Real Women of Philadelphia casting call and share recipes and tips with other real-life cooks.

Bellybars from Nutrabella – Especially for Expectant Mamas

This review is done in cooperation with The Healthy Moms Review Team that I am a part of. I did receive free products, but that in no way affects my review.

BellyBars

NutraBella Bellybars

All I have to say is yummy, yummy, yummy! I tried the Mellow Oat first which is oat graham and yogurt covering half of the bar. I love yogurt and oatmeal. With my iron still low these Belly Bars have 18 mg iron, plus 800mg of Folic Acid and 8 g of Protein.

I also received a Due for Chocolate milkshake. So for all of us chocolate lovers that is a definite bonus! It was very good, made with real milk without any growth hormones.

The bars and shakes are fortified with all the supplemental nutrients required in a normal pregnancy. The more notable nutrients we expectant mamas need the Bellybar has: 800 mg Folic Acid, 8 g Protein and 18 mg of Iron – something I need mroe of! While Bellybar products are made with no GMOs or growth hormones, they are not certified organic, even though they are labeled “All Natural” because ingredients like brown rice syrup, cane juice etc. No high fructose corn syrup and the like.

I actually think it’s ingenious for Nutrabella to cater to expectant mamas. I love bars like this, so even if they are not certified organic I plan to check to see if our local Walgreens carries them. I find bars high in protein give me an extra boost throughout the day.

Freschetta Pizzas

I received the following product for free in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

logo-freschetta-with-copy< I was rather excited when the opportunity arose to receive five coupons for five free Freschetta Frozen Pizzas - pizza is our family's favorite meals. We generally eat homemade, unless we are visiting family and they order out. Frozen pizzas are a rare convenient treat that we buy when on sale. But these were pre-made and would come in handy on a busy night. We tried the NEW Zesty Italian Flatbread, Brick Oven 5-Italian Cheese and a 4 Cheese Naturally Rising, since the store we shopped at had a very limited quantity. I really wanted to try their other NEW pizza Garlic and Spinach, but the store did not have it.

thumb-flatbread-zesty-italian< Most of our family preferred the Zesty Italian, it just had more flavor. I found the sauce flavor of the 5-Italian Cheese odd, but I am use to a sweeter homemade sauce that we make ourselves using a puree or tomato sauce with our own sea salt, organic cane sugar and spices. As my son would say, homemade is BEST! Our girls really liked the pizzas and the opportunity not to help make dinner! It certainly saved us time on clean up and preparation the night we had these Freschetta Pizzas, even though it isn't a very healthy meal. But on a night that we were crunched for time, these pizzas certainly came in handy to get us out the door on time! As much as I appreciated the convenience of the Freshetta pizzas that we received, I have to say that they were not the best frozen pizzas we have ever tasted. Our family tends to be pizza connoisseurs and know what we like about pizza, whether it is take out, frozen or homemade versions! Like I said though, it is a very easy meal. Visit www.freschetta.com for more information. They even have some coupons available on their site.
