Thrifty Thursday – Barter
Bartering is a age old custom used since 2000 B.C. In China. You can barter for anything now. There are many sorts of barter styles from trade exchanges, internet bartering, and even barter markets. But how exactly can you find people who want to barter? Good question here is a list of websites/places that can help you learn how to barter and how to find items to barter for.
1. Craigslist: Craigslist Barter section is a GREAT way to find barter items. Go to craigslist.com and look for Barter under the for sale tab.
6. Free Cycle.com (not a bartering place exactly but you can save money)
9. People Trading Services.com
10. Swap Hog.com
Happy Bartering!

Thrifty Thursday: Tips To Save At Starbucks!
Since alot of us love Starbucks we thought that you might like some tips to save money at Starbucks. And since Starbucks is SO expensive these days maybe some of these tips will help you save some money.
Get a free Starbucks card that earns you free drink customization, free coffee and tea refills, and a free drink on your birthday.
Keep your old Starbucks cups and bring it back anytime and get $.50 refills.
If you bring your own reusable cup Starbucks will nick 10 cents off the price in recognition of your eco-consciousness. And as regulars learned long ago if you order a tall drink and bring a very big reusable cup, you get some extra beverage for free. Cool eh?
You can get up to two hours of WIFI free at starbucks to check you e-mail, surf the internet, and work online.
Here are three other things that Starbucks doesn’t want you to know that can help you save money:
Cheap Latte’s- If you like iced latte’s but you don’t want to spend $3.00 on one you can your espresso over ice in a big cup then you can walk right over to the condiment bar and use the whole milk, half and half, and nonfat. You can save money, and it’s WAY cheaper. And plus you won’t get into trouble with Starbucks.
Be Careful What You Eat- So, the coffee is brewed fresh but what about all the pastries? Well a Starbucks worker tells us “The food gets delivered to us every morning, frozen from the factory the seasonal pastries are really good — pumpkin cream cheese muffins at Halloween and peppermint brownies at Christmas.” But, the bananas and bagels are cheaper at other vendors and they taste better. Some vendors set up their stands by Starbucks so look for fruit and bagels there.
If you follow these four rules and you won’t get in trouble for using the wifi for longer than 2 hours.
Go to the same Starbucks and tip the baristas well.
Get more coffee every couple hours. (You can get it free or you can get a $.50 refill but still leave a good tip)
Don’t take business calls in the restaurant.
Don’t take the best chairs and tables.
Have a great Thursday, now go and get a latte and enjoy some free wifi!

Thrifty Thursdays: Free Cycle
Friends of ours recently told us about Free Cycle, and how you can get free stuff from it. But what is Free Cycle you ask? Well Free Cycle is a online group (they have ones in China, Canada, all over the world really!) where you put in where you live to find a group near you and sign up! Soon free offers will come into your e-mail. We have gotten doors for our house, clothing, books, organizing cabinets and more. We have seen electronics, household items, clothing and much more listed for free in your area! Their is nothing wrong with these things, the owners just don’t want them. And they don’t want to throw them out so, they pass them along to a new owner.
The one bad thing about Free Cycle is that you have to RESPOND QUICKLY! These things go fast! That is the one disadvantage. Also, do be careful about going to peoples houses and letting people in your home. But, most people just leave their items by their mail box or on their porch.
All in all Free Cycle is a great place to get items for free that you normally would not get for no money.
Happy cycling!

Spring is Here!
I have several reviews to get posted, but am finding it hard to get them written up amidst everything else we are currently involved in! We have been having gorgeous weather – 70-80 degrees most of last week. This week we were expecting some of the same this week, but it’s been raining with thunderstorms most of the time.
We had an “episode” last week, our two year old son gave us a scare with DeCon. My husband had brought home his mom’s shop vac, which she keeps in her garage where she puts down DeCon to control the mice population. There happened to be some on the shop vac and my husband found the DeCon on our floor beside Noah after bringing the shop vac into the house. It was a scary few days, but we are thankful to report that he is just fine. Whew. My poor husband was kicking himself, but it is one of those things that happened…and put our hearts in our throats and our emotions on our sleeves just thinking about losing Noah.
Then we were fortunate to come across a free upright freezer, which my husband and his brother picked up and got set up in record time in our garage. Now we have two upright freezers to help store food for our growing family.
We also came across some farm property for rent. Just land for rent, no house as it is already rented out, but if we were to rent a couple of acres we’d be able to put up a huge family vegetable garden to help feed this crew of ours. We are going to see the property tomorrow, which is fairly close to our house. So I am in “farm mode” again as I try to finish up our online farminars with PracticalFarmers.org, set up our mentorship through our Farm Beginnings facilitator (for those of you unaware, this past winter we won a full scholarship to Stateline Farm Beginnings for beginning farmers and those interested in farming).
So, if I you are wondering why I haven’t posted, you now know why, as this is all in addition to what I do at home for our homeschool and for our clients! Plus, we began our deep cleaning of our garage which desperately needs finishing so we can make room for this new little person growing inside my womb – he or she has begun to make more movements that are more noticeable to me! It is such a wonderful feeling! The weather and my husband’s health has not been very cooperative this week to get the garage done.

FREE Webinar on Money-Saving Organizing Tips
This past week I learned of a FREE webinar with author and expert organizer, Jamie Novak. I signed up. Hopefully, I don’t forget when March 11th rolls around, but I am hoping that I can glean some new ideas about how to declutter our lives in our small living space. I am always open to new ways of organizing and with spring around the corner, I am itching to make a huge purge of stuff from our home. With another little one on its way, we will need to free up space and I have a funny feeling most of my family is going to find the purge pretty painful, unless we come up with new ideas.
Her new book, Stop Throwing Money Away: Turn Clutter to Cash, Trash to Treasure, and Save the Planet While You’re at It, is more than an organizing book — it offers new ways of thinking and inspires you to change your mindset about organizing, making money and saving the planet all at once. ~Tamara Monosoff, of Mom Inventors
Barnes and Noble and other major bookstores carry this book. I think I will see if our library can get it first, before I buy it.
Maybe I’ll see some of you on the call….
