So make your next event one that will be seen and talked about for a long time. Explore our website or give us a call to find out more about our programs.”

You can find all of these on their website at www.colortime.com

My Review:

I received a tote bag, with 3 markers (blue, yellow, & pink).

Here’s the before picture.

And here’s the after.

This is a great rainy or snow day project.  Even terrific for birthday parties.

They tell you in the instruction how to prep & care for your project.  The markers are non toxic and permanent.  BUT,  will wash off your hand (I tried and it worked). I’d make sure you are in a well ventilated room, as the markers give off a smell.  If you have smaller kids, I’d recommend a smock or old play shirt.  As the markers are permanent on fabric.  All in all, love it!

Check out their website at colortime.com and they are also on Facebook.

The Number Train Giant Floor Puzzle / Twin Sisters Review

About Twin Sisters:

“Fraternal Twins Kim Thompson and Karen Hilderbrand have always been close, and have always worked well together. This company was born out of a love for children and seeing the wonderful look of pride on their faces when they have mastered a concept, and have had fun doing it!

Kim started her career as a classroom teacher. She loved teaching first grade and would incorporate music on a daily basis. My class would sing our spelling words, clap out rhythms, march around the room – all while learning. Many phonemic awareness activities involve music, and I found this to be a really fun and effective way to teach. When I earned my masters degree in “Integrating the Arts into the Elementary School Curriculum,”
I was convinced that music was a powerful teaching tool. I began teaching third grade and while becoming familiar with my new math curriculum, discovered that I would be teaching the multiplication facts. What a challenge! I knew that using music and rhythm would make it fun and easy – so that’s what I did. Karen and I worked together and wrote “Rap With The Facts.” We recorded our first album with the help of Hal Wright, and that’s how it all began!”

Since the beginning, we have been blessed with continual growth. Our MISSION is to be The Leader in Children’s Educational Music. We have worked very hard to create excellent products that children will enjoy, and to make learning effective and fun for the lives that we touch through our music.  To get a glimpse of how hard we have been working to be the leader in children’s educational music, visit our awards section. www.twinsisters.com/awards

Twin Sisters Productions offers many children’s learning activities.  The kids don’t even realize they are learning because they are having fun!

I received “The Number Train Giant Floor Puzzle”

“Young learners will quickly begin to recognize numerals, number words, and number order 1 to 20 with this all-new giant Number Train Floor Puzzle! The 6-foot x 7-inch puzzle features 27 large, sturdy laminated pieces. The Music CD includes 12 songs that teach numbers and counting. Bonus! Print the 48-page Numbers & Counting Activity Book PDF from your own computer! Practice tracing and writing numbers, counting sets, and more!”

Even though my daughter is still a little young for this product (recommended ages are 4 to 10).  She really enjoys the puzzle and songs.  Each puzzle piece has a number of animals relating to the current number they are on.  Granted she doesn’t know her numbers in order yet, she does understand matching and is also learning about animals.  I printed the activity book and that is a bit advanced for her at this time, but it teaches them number counting and writing.  The music is great!  I love the fact the puzzle comes with a CD, to print the activity book at any time!  Most products you use the activity book once and you need to dispose of it.  Great product for upcoming birthday parties, holidays, or rainy or snowy day activities.

For this product and many others, visit the Twin Sisters website at http://www.twinsisters.com/

Twin Sisters can also be found on Facebook &

Book Review ~ You Can Count on Monsters

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

You Can Count on Monsters by: Richard Evan Schwartz

You Can Count on Monsters by Richard Evan Schwartz: Book Cover

Theresa already reviewed this book…but we thought it would be nice to do a second review, since I was also given a copy for our family.

OUR REVIEW:

This is a cute little book! The premise of the book is to teach about prime numbers and factoring…the book goes through the numbers 1-100. The author states that the only thing you need to know in order to enjoy this book is how to multiply whole numbers together, like 2 and 3. My daughter (7) is just getting into multiplication so this book is a bit conceptually advanced for her…but we did find that it could be used for simple counting lessons for my 2 and 5 year old. My children LOVE the pictures of the monsters…this is what got them interested in the book and numbers. I think that they would have been disinterested had there been simply numbers and facts. The monster theme made the book for my children.

As a mother I liked the book immensely! I was glad that the book had a use for my 2 and 5 year old as well as my 7 year old! I like that the book has a second use of numbers and silly pictures to entertain my younger children while being able to teach my older child about simple mathematical facts. This book gets 5 stars from our family!

Check out the authors website for more information as well as other published books.

Father’s Day Frosty Weekend!

It’s Father’s Day, and what better way to celebrate then to treat your dad to a yummy frosty from Wendy’s! And guess what? You can buy dad a treat AND give back! How? Well, 50 cents from each Frosty purchase will be donated to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, on Father’s Day weekend (June 18 and 19). These donations will be used to benefit the cause of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, which is a program that helps foster children in need find great homes.

Ways to give:

1. Twitter – Use the Treat it Forward application on www.facebook.com/frosty (Treat it Fwd tab), or use the hashtag: #TreatItFwd (please note, this is modified from the hashtag I sent last week). A donation will be made, by Wendy’s, for each designated tweet or re-tweet made from Treat it Forward.

2. Facebook – Send a Facebook friend a “virtual” Frosty, or tell friends about Father’s Day Frosty Weekend through the Facebook application found on www.facebook.com/frosty (Treat it Fwd tab); as a result, Wendy’s will make a donation.

3. Also, from Facebook, on Father’s Day Weekend only (June 18 & 19), offer a “Here’s to You, Dad!” Frosty “virtual toast” by snapping a photo of you raising your Frosty cup to Dad, tagging it with the words “Wendy’s Father’s Day Frosty Weekend” and posting it to Wendy’s Facebook wall or tweeting it; this, too, will result in a donation from Wendy’s.

4. Foursquare – Every person who ‘checks in’ to a Wendy’s during Father’s Day weekend only (June 18 & 19) will result in a donation from Wendy’s.

Tweet Ideas:

– Buy a @Wendys Frosty to #TreatitFwd and donate 50 cents to @DTFA this Father’s Day! RT to donate!
– Want to help foster kids find homes? RT this to donate 50 cents to the @DTFA!!! #TreatitFwd!
– I’m donating to @DTFA by enjoying this YUMMY Frosty from @Wendys. 50 cents from a purchase are donated! #TreatitFwd
– Go to @Wendys on June 18 & 19 and buy a Frosty! 50 cents will be donated to @DTFA! Help #TreatitFwd by RT!

OUR REVIEW:

We received the 4 tier packin’ smart. This was a nice size as it allows for versatility of storage. I used the product to house treats for my toddler on the go. I found that this was a useful product to house treats as the compartments detach and I could give her one compartment and keep the rest in the diaper bag. One thing I liked was the small opening on the lid…it was great for dispensing just enough treats. The opening is large enough for the treats to get through without a problem, yet small enough so not too many treats squeeze out and make a mess.

Other uses? I think that this product would be great for baby formula…it would allow just the right amount and the opening would allow for easy dispensing. As I was looking over the website the pictures also show that you can use the product for a wide range of storage…one that caught my eye was office supplies such as paper clips and thumbtacks, etc…this would prove to be a great storage option as it would allow for neat and easy dispensing. I was also thinking this would be a great way to store spices…each in its own compartment and of course the easy dispensing feature! As you can tell the storage options are endless! This is a neat product! Visit www.packinsmart.com to view more about the product and buy a few!

AMF Summer Unplugged Program

Summer is my favorite season. I have a lot of great memories of camping with my family growing up, swimming, biking, roasting marshmallows and hotdogs over the camp fire, walking and lots of sleepovers on my birthday.

Since having a family of my own we spend a lot of time outside over the summer because Chicago winters are usually cold and unless we have a bunch of snow we are pretty much inside. We go to the park, walk, bike, visit the Botanical Gardens, play in the water in our backyard or any number of other fun outdoor activities. And of course, we garden. The children love seeing where our food comes from and watching a little seed turn into a flower/veggie/fruit (yep they planted or composted apple seeds and we now have an apple tree growing!)

How are you and your family planning to stay active this summer? I have one idea I’d like to share with you.

AMF Summer Unplugged Bowling Program

AMF Bowling Centers is sponsoring a Summer Unplugged Program geared towards kids. The goal is to get unplugged from the TV (and internet for that matter as it can certainly provide sedentary entertainment) and get active by exercising. The program is FREE, but there is a sign up process involved and it does not include shoe rental. It is open to teens and children 16 and under.  Once you are signed up they will receive two FREE games per visit. You can learn more about the program here, as well as find participating centers near you: http://bit.ly/AMFfree

The program starts this weekend with Memorial Day and goes through Monday, September 5th.

So Who Loves Bowling?

You know I really enjoyed bowling when I was a teen. I usually went with our Youth Group and had a lot of fun. The thing is I have not been bowling since! My husband and I have never bowled together and our children have never gone bowling. Amazing, eh? But the bowling alleys use to allow smoking so that was a huge deterrent for us because of the exposure to second hand smoke. Now that they are smoke-free in Illinois I have considered taking our children. I think they’d have a blast.

Do you and your family like bowling? Leave a comment and let me know!

Disclosure: I participated in this campaign as a member of One2One Network and am eligible for a prize drawing.  All opinions stated in the post are my own.

Prefense Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer ~ Review

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

.

Have you ever used a hand sanitizer only to be overwhelmed with a harsh alcohol smell that lingers long after use? Prefense hand sanitizer is completely alcohol free and proactively and persistently offers protection from germs up to 10 hand washings! Amazing!

Prefense Botanicals Benefits:

  • · Alcohol free
  • Sanitizes nails and skin on contact
  • Protection from germs up to 10 hand washings
  • Works wet or dry
  • Safe for kids and adults!

I must admit that even though the product boasts that it is alcohol free…when I took my first pump of the product I still was expecting that alcohol scent to waft to my nostrils. I was pleasantly surprised when I smelled a nice clean botanical scent instead. I had to laugh at myself because the product did exactly what it promised, why would I expect any different…perhaps because the thought of hand sanitizing evokes a memory of harsh alcohol scent. Let me tell you this was a great experience…a wonderful scent and it forms a proactive antibacterial barrier wet or dry! The scent is derived from a silica complex with soothing organic botanicals. This product is truly a new generation of hand sanitizer! We also liked that the sanitizer was a foam and not a gel. Gels can be messy…prefense is a foam that is neatly pumped from the dispenser and goes on evenly. We also like that it comes in handy purse size (1.50z) or a larger (80z) family size.

To find out further information about the product check out their website http://www.prefense.com/

Yoga by the Dozen DVD Review & Giveaway

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

“Discover an exercise that fosters respect, coordination, and self-confidence for kids!  It’s Yoga, of course!  Children are natural yogis because of their “in the moment attitude”.  Yoga nourishes their mind, body and spirit and paves the way for a life-long tradition of health and fitness.

Yoga By The Dozen™promotes a healthy lifestyle for kids through their highly acclaimed ‘Yoga By The Dozen’ DVD and their complete line of lifestyle products for yoga.  The top-selling DVD is a fun, interactive children’s yoga video, designed especially for kids ages 2-6.  JoAnna and her 12 friends demonstrate a ‘dozen’ fundamental poses that will introduce your children into the exciting world of Yoga.”

Key Benefits:

  • Increase Cognitive & Motor skills
  • Confidence, Courage and Self-Esteem
  • Balance & Coordination
  • Memory Retention and Concentration
  • Nurture Creativity and Self Expression
  • Respect for themselve and each other
  • Proven therapy for kids with ADHD and Autism

About JoAnna Ross:  “Founder of Yoga By The Dozen™ was trained at City Yoga in Anusara teach-training program.  A life long performer, having danced on Broadway for years, found her natural charisma as a performer instantly clicked with kids.”

My Review:  I discovered a few things about myself when reviewing “Yoga by the Dozen”.  I need A LOT of practice, I have little balance and no flexibility.

My daughter (2 years old) and I put on “Yoga by the Dozen”, she loved it!  Watching the children on the DVD (who are little older than her) bend and stretch their bodies into poses.  She was following along (she’s needs to work on her balance too, must be a family trait) and trying to say the different poses on the DVD.  She’s a big fan of the Virabhadrasana #3 (Warrior #3 Pose).   The DVD is approximately 30 minutes.  JoAnna demonstrates the pose first and then one of the children replicates the pose to refresh the other children.  Then the whole class does the pose together.  I enjoyed watching the kids, they are all really enjoying themselves in the DVD.  We are going to continue practicing our yoga!

This is a wonderful DVD for beginning adults and children of all ages.  On the “Yoga by the Dozen” website www.yogabythedozen.com, you can also visit their store, they have yoga mats and yoga t-Shirts for kids and adults; and don’t forget your video for only 17.99 (plus s&h).

Simple Kids Craft: Thrifty Thursday

Last weekend when I had the three younger ones, I did an inexpensive craft with them. It is just a simple kids craft that they loved. My daughter had these little foam-like stickers that she wanted to use. I thought they required glue, which is the whole reason why I thought of doing this craft to begin with.

Inexpensive Materials

Left over fabric pieces from sewing, from rags or simply use construction paper.
Scissors
White Glue
Optional foam stickers
Optional Felt pieces (at least 1 per child)

Simple Kids Craft

I cut out two pieces of white flannel material. I chose flannel because it is a little stiffer. I cut it into a rectangle and gave each child their own piece.

Then I proceeded to go through our fabric scraps and cutting different shapes and sizes. Since we had brown fabric and a green fabric I did direct the children to make a tree, but that is the only influence I had over them. I allowed them to choose their fabric pieces to make their “collage”. They glued all their scrap pieces onto the flannel material.

Voila, they created their own fabric collage! They had fun doing this activity and I am going to remember it so we can do it again. As a matter of fact they took it upon themselves the other night to do it again…thankfully there was not too much mess. Could have been a lot worse!
