!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Since school is just around the corner lots of moms (including myself!) are planning ways to keep germs away from our children for the fall and winter seasons. And Lysol is helping get rid of all the germs with two new and improved products!

The first product is the LYSOL® Healthy Touch® No-Touch Hand Soap System, it was recently-named 2011 Product of the Year, it helps to eliminate the millions of germs that your children’s hands can pick up each day.

This no-touch hand soap system automatically senses hands and dispenses just the right amount of soap. My children and I love it! It is so easy to use and even my smallest children use it with ease. Since handwashing is one of the most important things that my children can do to stay healthy, I love that we don’t have to touch the germy soap pump! Plus, I love the new stainless steel look!

And the new LYSOL® Dual Action Disinfecting Wipes have two sides so that they will go beyond ordinary wipes. You can use one side for touching up your sinks, and you can use the other side to scrub through messes! Because these wipes are made by Lysol they will kill 99.9% of all germs! You can use Dual Action Wipes all around your home to clean and disinfect.

30 Meals in One Day Review, Promo Code & Giveaway!

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

So, you spent the day at work or running around with your kids.  You get home and the question comes up, “What’s for dinner?”.  Imagine telling them we’re having Slow Cooked Chili or Chicken Stuffed Manicotti within 45 minutes!  With this book and CD, it’s possible!

Dinner is Ready (by Deanna Buxton)  is the book & software I received.  In this book, there are 15 chapters.  Each explains in detail the steps you need to accomplish your ultimate goal of 30 Meals in One Day. Here are a few chapter titles.  “What is Freezer-Worthy?”, “Things That Will Make Your Life Easier”, “The Day Before”,  & “Thawing”.

I’m going to share 2 (two) paragraphs from the “Dinner is Ready” book.

From Chapter 2 – “What is Freezer-Worthy?”

“The test for “freezer-worthiness” is, “Do you like it after it has been frozen?”  After it is frozen, thawed and heated, can you tell that it has been frozen?  If you can tell it has been frozen, you don’t want it on your freezer-worthy list.  You are not freezing leftovers!  What makes leftovers taste like leftovers?  Leftovers can taste dried out, thick and overcooked.  Freezing is a marvelous method for food preservation.  When frozen properly, the food you serve your family will taste as delicious as if made that day!  The intention is to freeze food at or before its peak so you are always serving fresh tasting food.  Fully cooked meals such as Slow Cooker, StoveTop and Oven recipes should be frozen as soon as cool enough to go into the freezer.  Assemble recipes should be frozen as soon as preparation and packaging is complete.

From Chapter 4 – ” Choosing Recipes”

“Before choosing 15 recipes to prepare, you must first divide them according to cooking method and/or time required to prepare each.  Slow Cooker recipes, Oven recipes, StoveTop recipes, and Assemble recipes.

Your recipe list should very nearly consist of:

2 Slow Cooker recipes, 2 Oven recipes, 2 StoveTop recipes and 9 Assemble recipes

This is a general rule.  The number of each will probably vary at times.  Just be sure to limit the total to 15.  Don’t choose more Slow Cooker and Oven recipes than are physically possible in a day and avoid choosing too many labor intensive StoveTop recipes.”

My Review:

What your doing is making 15 double batch recipes, getting 30 meals.  This book and software is fantastic!  The software is very friendly, when you pick your recipes.  It will develop a shopping list and labels!  Also, from the software you can print a menu, recipes, and labels!  The book is very step by step and it seems as though nothing has been left out!  There are 158 pages of recipes!  However, I must warn you.  You’ll need 1 (one) full day just to cook.  So, put your families on notice for that day.  That and your shopping day, you’ll probably end up spending more than normal.   But, you’ll have tons of meals!  I know what some of you are thinking, where am I going to fit 30 meals in my freezer?  (There’s a chapter on this too)  I’m limited on space and moving in a few weeks.  So, 30 meals didn’t make sense to me at this time.  Or maybe you want to try it out first.  You can do what I did, I made 10 meals (5 recipes).  1 Slow Cooker, 1 Oven, 1 StoveTop, and 2 Assemble.  Worked for me!

In addition to Dinner is Ready, they offer Lunch is Ready & On the Side. Got a wedding or baby shower coming up?

Overall, I recommend this product!

Review ~ FiberChoice Chewable Fiber Supplement

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

FiberChoice chewable tablets and fiber supplements.

FiberChoice Chewable Fiber supplement is a simple, convenient, natural fiber that provides the regular benefits of fiber, while also helping to support the immune system, digestive tract, and overall health.

The main ingredient in FiberChoice is inulin, the same healthy fiber found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. Inulin is  “prebiotic,” which means it nourished the friendly, “good” bacteria in the digestive system.

FiberChoice is available in four formulas: FiberChoice original formula, FiberChoice Weight Management, Fiber Choice Plus Calcium, and Fiber Choice Plus Antioxidants.

Fiber Choice products are available at your local food, drug and discount stores. For more information and to check out the product visit www.fiberchoice.com

OUR REVIEW:

The product we received was FiberChoice original formula. My normal fiber supplement is taken in the form of a “gummi” so I was a bit hesitant to try a chewable tablet, for fear that it might taste chalky. This supplement is NOT chalky is it nice and smooth, it chews nicely and goes down well! I like the fact that no additional water is necessary when taking this supplement…just chew and go! I must say that the flavors are good…nothing yucky or odd tasting, just fruity flavors! The product I received was also sugar free…so an added plus ! I have added this to my morning supplement routine and I must say I am very pleased. The only downfall of the product is that it may cause your urine to smell. The supplement caused a smell similar to that of eating asparagus…I was not put off by the smell enough to stop the supplements, just something that happened as a side effect.

All in all, this was a great product. I liked the overall digestive health I have felt while using the product, plus the benefits of the added fiber. I may just switch my gummi fiber supplement out for Fiber Choice!

Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit Orthotic Inserts

If you are like most mom’s and dad’s then you are probably on your feet all day. Whether or not at your work, around your house, or running around after your kids, your feet are proably left tired and achy. Which is why Dr. Scholl’s created the new Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit Orthotic Inserts!

Not only are these inserts affordable, but they are located at retail stores near you. When you visit your local Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit Orthotic Centers, located in retail stores near you, feature Footmapping® Technology to identify the areas where you apply the most pressure and your arch type. After more than 2,000 sensors calculate your unique measurements, the kiosk then recommends the Custom Fit Orthotic Insert that best fits your feet.  It is really easy and only takes a few minutes to obtain your Custom Fit Orthotic Inserts.

My husband got a chance to try the new Dr. Scholl’s Custom Fit Orthotic Inserts. He really liked them and thought that they where better made then other inserts that he has tried. Although, he did find that he had to use his old arch supports underneath his Dr. Scholl’s inserts to get better results. But, then again he has very high arches.

For more information please visitwww.footmapping.com to find a store near you and learn more.

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product as a part of a MomCentral.com blog campaign in exchange for writing a review and we where compensated with the above product. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review and compensation, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

New Changes and Improvements to Infants’ and Children’s Tylenol

I’m sure most of you have heard and responded to all the recalls for Tylenol.  Tylenol has responded back with their changes and improvements they want us to share with you.  The first item is a letter from Ed Kuffner, MD, father of three, and Vice President, Medical Affairs at McNeil.

“As a dad and doctor, I know firsthand how tough it can be when your baby or child gets sick. While we are trying to comfort our children, we are also making sure that they are getting the care and medicine that they need to feel better.  For me, like every parent, safety comes first.

For this reason, as early as this upcoming and flu season, we will be making safety and convenience enhancements to both Infants’ and Children’s TYLENOL products, including a change to the concentration of our Infants’ TYLENOL products.

NEW FEATURES

Infants’ TYLENOL will be available with a new bottle that has a protective opening and a new push-in-syringe which will:

1.  Further reduce the risk of children being able to get to the medicine in the bottle

2.  Provide even better dosing accuracy and ease of administration to your child

3.  Allow for better control when dispensing the medication and reduce spillage

We will also be enhancing the bottles of Children’s TYLENOL with a protective opening that will help make it more difficult for a child to get to the medicine in the bottle.

To help encourage industry-wide adoption of these safety innovations, we have shared our plans with other manufacturers of pediatric acetaminophen products.

Important Changes to the Concentration of Infants’ TYLENOL

Moving forward, there will be one concentration of acetaminophen for single-ingredient TYLENOL products for infants and children.  This change is being made to standardize dosing across our products and age groups.  As always, Infants’ and Childrens’ TYLENOL products will continue to include specially designed dosing devices appropriate to the age of the child.

We have been working closely with other manufacturers of pediatric acetaminophen products to encourage an industry wide transition to one concentration across infants’ and children’s acetaminophen products.

1.  It is important to be aware that there will be a time period when both the current and new concentrations of Infants’ acetaminophen products will be available in stores and parents and caregivers might have both in their medicine cabinets.

2.  Be sure to read and follow the dosing directions on the product that is being used.

3.  Caregivers should contact their child’s health care provider if they have questions about dosing instructions.

Helpful Tips for Giving Medicines to Infants and Children

Simply remember to N.U.R.S.E

Never give adult medicines to children

Use the measuring device (syringe, dropper, dosage cup) that comes with the medicine every time you use it.  Don’t use kitchen spoons (teaspoons or tablespoons).

Read and follow instructions on the label.  Never give more than the recommended dose and do not give the medication more frequently than recommended.

Store all medicines out of the reach of children.  Immediately following use, always restore the child resistant cap and put the medicine back into a high and out of sight location.

Every child grows.  Know the infant’s or child’s weight and/or age to help determine the appropriate dose.

We appreciate your patience as we work to bring these new innovations to store shelves.  Please visit www.tylenol.com to learn more about our products and these changes.”

Review ~ Cottonelle Flushable Moist Wipes

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Cottonelle Flushable moist wipes are pre-moistened to provide a more thorough cleansing and freshening than with toilet paper alone! Cottonelle Flushable Moist Wipes are Alcohol-free, sewer and septic safe. For best results, only one or two wipes should be flushed at a time.

Cottonelle Flushable Moist Wipes are suitable for the following purposes:

  • With toilet paper as part of your bathroom routine
  • When traveling
  • To clean hand and faces

Visit www.cottonelle.com for more information about this and other products.

OUR REVIEW:

This was a very nice product to get to review. I have used Cottenelle before but never the fresh scented product. This wipe is nice and thick and has a nice clean scent. I found that they did their job as expected and we did not have any problem with them flushing down the toilet. I did find that they work well as a baby wipe also…I have a toddler still in diapers and this wipe did a great job cleaning my toddler.

The product is dispensed in a nice pop up container. The product came with an adhesive wall hook that you can attach to the wall above or around your toilet paper holder. Unfortunately I do not have space to hand up the product near my toilet paper so I had to forgo that idea…but for those who have space it is a nice addition to the product.

The only thing I did not like about the product was that sometimes the wipes could be difficult to remove from the dispenser. I had to reach in and grab the wipes to get them to come out…they did not “pop” up like a traditional wipe container would…but I suppose that since they stay in the container it is less likely that they would dry out.

All in all, this was a great product to try and we will be buying Cottenelle Flushable Moist wipes in the future!

HINT Water Review

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Has anyone ever told you to take a hint?  Well, I’m telling you to go buy a HINT.  A HINT Water that is! ” HINT – Drink Water, Not Sugar”

“Just the Facts”

“HINT is simple: Premium essence water with a HINT of flavor.”

“HINT offers verages with no calories, sweeteners or preseravaive and is a great alternative to juice and soda.”

“HINT was launced in April 2005 by current CEO Kara Goldin, a former AOL Executive and mother of four, her husband Theo hold the position of COO.”

“HINT has appeared on popular shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Boston Legal, and CSI, in addition  to The Early Show, Power Lunch, and Good Day New York.”

“HINT is based in San Franciso, California.”

Here are the available flavor in HINT water – Watermelon, Honeydew, Hibiscus, Blackberry (available at Starbucks throughout the US and Canada), Mango-Grapefruit, Pomegranate-Tangerine, Lime, Raspberry-Lime, Pear, Cucumber, and Strawberry-Kiwi.

“HINT is available in high-end grocery stores, cafes, & food retailers nationwide.”

My Review:

I received  six (6) bottles.  Watermelon, Blackberry, Mango-Grapefruit, Pomegranate-Tangerine, Raspberry-Lime, & Strawberry-Kiwi.  And my husband, daughter and I were “fighting” over them!  We liked them all and they were refreshing!  My favorite was the Mango-Grapefruit, while my husband’s was Raspberry-Lime.  My least favorite was watermelon, only because I prefer real watermelon – the actual melon. I’m not fond of watermelon candy and things like that.

The bottles are 16 ounces each and can be purchased directly on their site.  www.drinkhint.com .  I also found them on Amazon.  Both sites have HINT water at the same price per bottle. A great refreshing treat!

ResVitale Review & Giveaway

I had the opportunity to try a new product called ResVitale. What is ResVitale? Well it’s a-

Resveratrol is a powerful polyphenol found in the skin, seeds, stem and vine of red wine grapes that exerts significant antioxidant properties. Thought to serve as one explanation for the French Paradox – the idea that the French have a remarkably low incidence of heart disease compared to Americans despite a diet rich in high-fat foods – Resveratrol has over 2,000 associated clinical studies documenting the amazing benefits.

My Thoughts-

Did this product work? Yes and no. I didn’t notice any miraculous results as I only took the product for a few weeks. (I would have been able to take it longer, but the product got soggy on our vacation and was no longer edible! :) Although, one lady a few weeks ago told me that I wasn’t old enough to have eight children! ;) So maybe it does work miracles!

I think that this product is a really neat idea! I love that it’s organic/all natural and that it’s great for anti-oxidants and anti-aging!

Part 2 of 2 of the Lemon, Thyme and Peppermint Series

This is the second part of a two part series, the first part was shared last week here. This series contains infomation from Dr. Jean Valnet, MD, the well-known French medical researcher and essential oil expert, which appeared in BIOTECH News. Debra Raybern’s comments are preceded by the initials DR.

Oregano and Other Super Oils

In his book, The Practice of Aromatherapy, Jean Valnet describes how oil of oregano is potent enough to sterilize sewage water! In 1995 Greek researchers at the University of Thessaloniki discovered that a 1/4000 dilution of fresh wild oil of oregano sterilized septic water.

Even in very watered down concentrations oil of oregano has been found to be “extremely bactericidal” in its action against 8 strains of bacteria including E coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus. At Cornell University research has shown it was effective against 30 different germs.

A University of Tennessee study found oil of oregano to be useful against 9 different harmful food borne microbes. In Holland scientists found that carvacrol, one of oregano’s components, did an excellent job in inhibiting food borne Bacillus bacteria.

DR NANCY SNYDERMAN (VO) Noble was experimenting with bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. Staph is a very common bacterium that lives on our skin and generally causes no trouble. But if it gets into the bloodstream, say through a cut or surgery, staph can very quickly damage the heart, lungs, brain, or poison the entire system. Staph is also very easily spread by touch. It’s found on doors, handrails, counter tops, you name it. What made Noble’s strain of staph so extraordinary, so frightening, was that it was resistant to the most potent antibiotic in existence, a drug called vancomycin.

“Oil pressed from oregano leaves that contain the active ingredient carvacrol may be an effective treatment against sometimes drug-resistant bacterial infection. Georgetown University researchers have found that oil of oregano appears to reduce infection “as effectively as traditional antibiotics.” Oil of oregano at relatively low doses was found to be efficacious against Staphylococcus bacteria and was comparable in its germ-killing properties to antibiotic drugs such as streptomycin, penicillin and vancomycin.” [Science Daily 10/11/2001]

The findings were presented by Harry G. Preuss, MD, professor of physicology and biophysics, Georgetown University, at the American College of Nutrition’s annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Super charged essential oils:

1. Oil from thyme: Destroys the anthrax bacillus, the typhoid bacillus, the glanders bacillus, staphylococcus, the diptheria bacillus, meningococcus, and Koch’s.
2. Essence of Lemon: Neutralize the meningococcus, typhus bacillus, pneumococcus, staphylococcus aureus and hemolytic streptococcus. Neutralizes the typhus bacillus, staphylococcus and the diphtheric bacillus
3. BLEND: pine, thyme, peppermint, lavender, rosemary, cloves, cinnamon: Antieptic effect of a blend of essential oils—including pine, thyme, peppermint, lavender, rosemary, cloves and cinnamon was studied in order to test the ability of the oils to purify the air of harmful disease-causing bacteria, and many forms of bacteria —INCLUDING Staphylococcus aureus.
4. Peppermint: Improve mental acuity and alertness, vanquish fatigue, soothe the respiratory system, relieve nausea, fever and vomiting, and quickly put a stop to acid indigestion and heartburn. It kills intestinal parasites, staphylococcus and tuberculosis bacillus. Inhalant for the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
5. BLEND: Eucalyptus, clove, lemon cinnamon rosemary: dramatically inhibit the growth of many forms of bacteria—INCLUDING Staphylococcus aureus.
6. Oil of oregano: Potent enough to sterilize sewage water! It is “extremely bactericidal” against 8 strains of bacteria including E Coil, Salmonella and Staphylococcus. Reduces infection “as effectively as traditional antibiotics and exhibited the greatest antibacterial action against common pathogenic germs such as Staph, E. Coil and Listeria.

FoodDay.org

We are excited to present a major new campaign that we are launching today with some of the most prominent voices for change in the food policy world.  Organized by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Food Day will encourage people around the country to sponsor or participate in activities that encourage Americans to “eat real” and support healthy, affordable food grown in a sustainable, humane way.

We’ve modeled Food Day on Earth Day.  It is led by honorary co-chairs Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Rep. Rosa Delauro (D-CT), and is backed by an impressive advisory board including author Michael Pollan, physicians David Satcher and Michael Roizen, professors Walter Willett, Kelly Brownell, and Marion Nestle, and prominent chefs such as Alice Waters, Dan Barber, and Nora Pouillon.  Food Day also has the support of a wide range of national and local organizations focused on hunger, sustainable agriculture, animal welfare, and public health.

We envision thousands of events on October 24, 2011, from coast to coast, ranging from small events in homes and classrooms, to large rallies in public parks, and hearings in city councils and state legislatures.  A Food Day event could be as simple as a vegetable-recognition contest in a kindergarten, a potluck dinner with friends featuring locally sourced ingredients, a spirited debate on a college campus, or celebrating the harvest from an urban garden.

Food Day is all about solving local communities’ food problems.  Nationally, we’ve identified five key priorities:

– Reducing diet-related disease by promoting healthy foods

– Supporting sustainable farms and cutting subsidies to agribusiness

– Expanding access to food and alleviating hunger

– Reforming factory farms to protect animals and the environment

– Curbing junk-food marketing to kids
Can we count on you to participate in a Food Day event near you, or better yet, will you organize a Food Day event in your community?  If none of the topics above appeals to you, is there another food issue confronting your community that needs attention?  A growing network of partner organizations, advisors, and Food Day organizing staff will help putting a Food Day event on the calendar.  (In weeks we’ll have a web-based map that lets you schedule or RSVP to Food Day events with just a few clicks of a mouse).

Please email us at foodday@cspinet.org, or call us at 202-777-8392.  Food Day is just a little more than six months out.  That’s more than enough time to plan, and let’s get started together!

You can keep up with Food Day and other exciting things by ‘liking’ Food Day on Facebook, or following us at our Twitter handle (#foodday).
