Fall Table Top Ideas

Fall is pretty much here and lately in our state we have been experiencing cooler weather and all the stores have begun to stock fall goodies. A great way to celebrate the coming of the new season is to use some great fall table top items from Bormioli Rocco – an Italian glassware company that offers modern designs with classic twists.

The first item on our list are the Bormioli Rocco, Sorgente Fuchsia Glassware that come in a set of six. I really like the two glasses sent to me. They are cool looking and a great addition to our glassware collection. I have been using them almost every day and the frosted color is very cute.

With the fall season you are sure to have guests over for a football party or just a fall dinner and these glasses are a great way to showcase some color and fall style without going overboard. You can find the Fuchsia Highball Glasses for $46.00 per set at Macys.com

The other item that is perfect for fall are the Bormioli Rocco Quattro Stagioni 8 1/2 Ounce Canning Jar, Set of 12 $32.55 at Amazon.com

This jar set is really cute and even though I haven’t used the one I received it’s pretty safe to say that I will probably put jam in it. If you don’t do fall canning you can also use these jars to organize meals for the back to school season. You could also use these jars for table top decorations or candle holders.

You can find these products at Macys.com and Amazon.com

Degree Women® Unapologetically Strong

Do you know someone who you consider unapologetically strong? I know of quite a few actually, but I think my mom stands out the most. Both my parents were strong, but in different ways. Without going into a lot of details my mom was strong for my sisters and me during our growing up years. There were so many things I didn’t even realize until I was older and yet she remained strong when she could have wilted and given up.

My dad had to learn to be strong from a young age. He was diagnosed with Polio at a 12-15 months. He wasn’t suppose to survive, let alone be able to walk, but he lived and walked again. My grandmother was unapologetically strong in my father’s therapy for a year or more. She is the one who did the exercises prescribed by the doctors. She’s the one who never gave up on my father and his ability to learn to walk. If it weren’t for her perseverance my father may never have walked again, but he did. Due to one of his legs being smaller and weaker, my dad walked with a limp for the rest of his life. He used a brace for many years until insurance no longer covered the cost of replacing it for a new one. I was probably in my late 20’s or even early 30’s by that time. Then he went without. I never heard him complain. My mom would tell us when he was sore but we usually didn’t hear it from him. He worked hard to provide for us. He learned to be strong in spite of his handicap and pain.

TopFloor’s Louboutin Promotion & Giveaway

My oldest daughter is a huge shoe person. She LOVES shoes. I am rather boring and practical. I like to have brown shoes that go with everything and I don’t have to have white shoes for spring and summer and black for fall and winter. She, on the other hand, loves to have wedges, heels and flats galore. She gets excited about styles, colors and sparkles. I think she takes after my husband because when we first got married he had a ton of shoes! He’s not like that now but as a single guy he must have liked spending money on shoes, mostly athletic ones. Regardless of where you are at on the shoe spectrum, I am sure you can appreciate Louboutin. Even I do. They are so pretty.

NEW Ameda® Intimates Nursing Bra

I have been nursing or pregnant for the past 16 years. I have tried very few nursing wear products considering the length of time I have spent breastfeeding. The products have consisted of nursing bras, a camisole/tank top and nightie. I found most nursing tops I tried didn’t fit me right, were far to long for my short frame and left me feeling quite uncomfortable. As I have stated before, I dress for comfort. It has to feel good to make me look good.

That’s why I was excited to discover Ameda has come out with a new Intimates Apparel for Nursing Moms collection.

Intimates Nursing Camisole.
Shown below.

Intimates Nursing Bra.
Also shown below.

Ameda has created these two products for comfort and there are other interesting features to consider as well:

· Seamless cup, no underwire

· Microfiber fabric

· Fabric is tested for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex Standard

· It’s unique side panels adapt to the ever “evolving” shape of the mother

· The easy release clasp makes breastfeeding in public a breeze

· Comes in sizes A-J cups

· Machine washable

Both retail for $39.99 and are available at AmedaOnline.com, AmedaBaby and AmedaDirect.com.

My Review

When I put on this bra, my initial response was, “Ahhhh, it’s so comfortable!” The material is soft and it washes up nicely. It comes in five different sizes. I did find that it may run a little smaller than the size chart indicates.

It is very easy to use the clasp system, but I found the fabric elastic enough that I can even move the bra to the side in order to nurse.

The fabric is very lightweight but don’t think you won’t stop sweating simply because of the type of material it’s made of because you probably will. I know I did.

I’ve been looking for a new nursing bra since my old ones are no longer made and they are becoming a little raggy looking. That’s the thing, I have probably replaced my nursing bras every 3-4 years and by the time I need new ones my old ones are extinct. It’s really a pet peeve of mine to find a product I really like only to have it off the market never to be found again when I want it again. Very sad state of affairs for this mama.

I really like the Ameda Intimates Nursing bra and am adding it to my new favorites. It gets two thumbs up for me!

Lilla Rose Hair Clip Review and Giveaway

I was contacted by Sarah an independent Lilla Rose distributor about hosting a review and giveaway as well as a Lila Rose Party.

My middle daughter and I chose the Sea-Inspired dolphin clip to review. My daughter loved the sea theme and her favorite color is blue so she was really pleased with the clip when we received it.

Before choosing a Lilla Rose clip be sure to watch the sizing video to choose the correct size so you don’t end up with a bad fit!

When we tested this clip out we were surprised at how well it fit my daughter’s hair. It didn’t slip or fall out and it stayed in all day which is surprising considering very few hair clips do. We are in love with these clips and think they are a great alternative to the cheap clips you can buy elsewhere because they are so well made not to mention beautiful!

I love that the Lilla Rose hair clips are not only pretty and fashionable, but they work great in any type of hair. Lilla Rose offers beautiful hair jewelry in seven different sizes so it doesn’t matter how thick or fine, short or long, your hair is, but they will have one that works for you!

We are really pleased with the quality and customer service provided by Lilla Rose. Sarah is extremely helpful in choosing a clip and is fast at responding to e-mails, not to mention very pleasant to work with!

If you’d like to purchase a Flexi-8 clip you can do so here. Remember! Orders placed today get FREE shipping!

$16 gift card to two winners (you can easily purchase almost anything from Lilla Rose with these)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

My First Farmers Almanac

I bought my first Farmers Almanac the other day and I can’t believe I didn’t buy it sooner!

I always thought the Farmers Almanac was all about the weather.  Boy was I surprised when I found tons of fantastic information!

Yes, it does have weather information,  BUT, on page 8 I found out how to get rid of weeds with out pulling or chemicals and it’s easy!  You pour boiling water on them or use a mixture of dish washing liquid (5 tablespoons) and water (4 cups) in a spray bottle!  I also learned how to make a “Homemade Jar Opener”, “No-Mess Baking”, ways to cut energy costs, how to save on gas, even a section on comfort foods (my favorite).

I plan on buying one every year!  They are really a wealth of information!

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms

The first several years of being a mom I was pretty uptight and stressed – a lot more than I am now. There were (and still are) so many things I didn’t know (still don’t know). However, time, experience and maturity has taught me what is important:

1. Prayer. I pray all the time for my children. After all, God is the one who made them and ultimately knows them.
2. Love. Kids need lots of love and it is a constant work in progress to show them I love them on a daily basis amidst the good, bad and ugly. Each of them enjoy what is often referred as “love languages”. When they know they are loved they thrive.
3. Doing My Best. If I am truly doing my best, then the rest is up to God. As finite humans there is always room for improvement but if my husband and I are jointly seeking what is best for our family and individual children, then things should be ok. Our children will make choices, but any bad or wrong choices won’t be our fault if we have taught them right from wrong – after all our children are human too with minds of their own. Some just have to learn the hard way, unfortunately, and I cannot beat myself up about it.

I still tend to worry about certain things, think that’s part of being a parent, but overall I have loosened up quite a bit. As a mom of eight, I do not have time to let my Type A personality rule me like it use to!

I know all of you moms with 2-3 children all think I am nuts for having as many children as I do, but in many ways having 2-3 is as much work as having my 8 now. I know you don’t believe me but it’s true. When I had three children 3 and under or even five 6 and under, I was doing everything. Everything. My oldest was just starting to be a helper girl. Now I don’t do everything because I have built in helpers, however, I do work for income within our home and without the children’s help we would probably never eat or have clean clothes! Not that they do it perfectly by any means because often I find myself finishing up what they didn’t.

When I was a young mom (making myself sound old now! ;)) I also remember reading a lot of books. Books for encouragement, books about parenting, books about children. I still have many of my favorites and yes, they are still an encouragement to me. I hope one day my daughters will benefit from them.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms

Kristine Carlson has written a book titled, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms, that has short chapters for busy moms. In it she shares “simple ways to stress less and enjoy your family more.” I think new and young moms alike would benefit from this book. She includes many reminders like:

– There’s no such thing as a “perfect” mom
– Practice breathing before you speak
– Gratitude is a family practice, and begins with you
– When all else fails, laugh
– Celebrate other mothers
– Guilt-free working mom

Plus many more in her little 100 chapter book.
