Welcome Prom Season with Jen Jen House

jj

Prom season is here and with it comes the madness of trying to find the perfect dress. While in store shopping can be fun, the ease of online shopping is slowly starting to take over.

In a sea of sweetheart style necklines and puffy pink skirts, JenJenHouse.com offers unique and affordable prom dresses. From classic Grecian style dresses to ball gowns, they have something to suit every fashion sense.

I’ve personally found that most online dress shops don’t exactly offer a decent sizing chart, or a general idea as to how the clothing will fit. I was pleased to find that JenJen House isn’t like that. They give clear directions on how to measure yourself to get a perfect fit.

The wide variety of dresses available on the website ensures that every girl, whether she has dark hair or light, will have a dress that matches her hair and skin tone.

I’m really loving the Grecian styles that they have. After studying Greek history last semester, I’ve been endlessly fascinated by the Greek culture and their way of life. It’s awesome to see how ancient fashion still inspires our culture today!

Celebrating Valentine’s Day as a Family

Ah! Love is in the air – Valentine’s Day is coming!

Valentine's Day February 14

I remember the days of being Sweethearts –  going out to dinner, flowers, & candy.  My…My… can things change once kids enter the picture.  Valentine’s Day has changed in our house, we now celebrate as a family.   Here’s a few inexpensive ways to make Valentine’s Day a family event!

1.)     Make heart pancakes for breakfast – Make your favorite pancake mix, add a few drops of red food coloring.  Stir up the batter good and cook them.  When they are done cooking, take a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out your heart pancakes.

2.)    Heart shaped sandwiches for lunch – This is a good craft as well as lunch.  Build your favorite sandwich and then use the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out a really cute sandwich.

3.)    You need flowers for Valentine’s Day – Material needed:  a few sheets of colored tissue paper and a pipe cleaner for each flower.  Take the tissue paper and lay them on top of one another and then twist a pipe cleaner in the middle.  Fluff out the tissue paper to make tissue flowers.

4.)    You can’t have Valentine’s Day without chocolate –  My favorite is chocolate covered strawberries.  Buy strawberries at your local store and a bag or a few bars of your favorite chocolate.  Using a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals at first.  Stir the chocolate.  Once the chocolate starts to melt only microwave about 10 seconds or less, be careful not to burn the chocolate.  Use oven mitts to take the chocolate out of the microwave, it will be very hot.  Then dip your washed & dried strawberries into the chocolate, I sometimes use a spoon to coat the berry.  Place the chocolate strawberry on wax paper to dry.

Enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day as a family!

Winter Wonderland – Wordless Wednesday

This is a photo of our friend’s pretty lane a week before Christmas. We went to her house to pick up eggs since none of the hens we have left are laying. Sniff. Sniff. Anyhoo….I just had to stop to take a photo of the winter wonderland.

It’s been bitterly cold the past few days. All the animals have been hunkering down in the barn.

How’s the weather where you are?

2014 is Here! Happy New Year!

FFR HAPPY NEW YEAR

Another year has come and gone….and I am not sure how I feel about it. I cannot say I am excited about the new year. Excited for spring and summer. Guess I am quietly contemplating what is going to happen when my husband’s unemployment runs out in 2-3 months. It kind of puts a damper on the new year cheer to say the least.

Looking back on 2013, I can honestly say it wasn’t all bad. The good list certainly outweighs the bad.

The Good:
Finally sold our townhouse.
Increased my income….somewhat.
New work at home job as hostess on Moms.com
Saw growth and potential in our wee organic farm venture.
Added a cow to our farm family.
Healthy family.
Not one but TWO visits from my mom.
Birth of my first niece on my side of the family.
Signed a two year lease with our landlords. Hard to believe one year is gone already. Only a year left.

The Bad:
Sixth miscarriage in June 2013.
Husband’s second job loss in five years.
Loss of poultry.
Bad break with a client.

Looking forward to 2014, I really only have one goal in mind and several others stirring. I don’t like to make new year’s resolutions because past experience tells me I won’t succeed. I prefer setting short-term and long-term goals.

What about you did you make any new year’s resolutions?

Merry Christmas!

FFR 2013 Christmas Tree - Jr

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! We are staying at home and celebrating as a family. We opened gifts last night and made lefse (Norwegian potato bread). Today we surprised the younger children with a teepee which we set up last night. We served a breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls with yummy cream cheese frosting. Then we will have our Christmas dinner mid-day or early afternoon, play games and/or watch a movie.

Have a wonderful day!

Holidays with CaringBridge

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for CaringBridge. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”

Holidays with CaringBridge

I have blogged about CaringBridge before and how friends of ours have used a similar site to keep us all up to date on how their child is progressing through their medical situation which started at birth and on through the past five years. It’s a great tool. With so much love and joy surrounding the holidays, it’s important to take the time to share your support with friends and family in need. CaringBridge, a non-profit that provides free, personal websites, aims to help people to stay connected and receive support during any type of health journey. CaringBridge serves more than 500,000 people each day to amplify the love, hope and compassion in the world, hoping to make each journey a little easier.

Watch and share the video above or follow the link below to help spread the word about CaringBridge and how a small word of support can inspire hope and impact the lives of our loved ones this season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe2H_eM05V8

The Way My Three Year Old Decorates a Christmas Tree – Wordless Wednesday

In Saturday’s post, I mentioned the way my three year old decorates a Christmas tree, well here are the photos to show just how he does it!

FFR Jr.'s idea of decorating the Christmas Tree

Don’t be too shocked at the almost wordless Wednesday post! I am cheating to watch a TV show with hubby and because I am going out to lunch with fellow farmer friends today. ;)
