Band-Aid Magic Vision App

It always amazes me that characters, TV shows and movies that I watched as a kid are usually loved by my children too. From Spider-Man and McGyver to Sesame Street and the Muppets. I always loved Kermit the Frog. How about you? Speaking of the Muppets we tried a new app this week, Band-Aid Magic Vision. This is an app to use on your iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad2 or iPad3. It as a tool to cheer up your child when they get an owie. If you like Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the rest of the Muppets, you and your child will enjoy this app.

All you do is take the Muppets Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages or the box and scan it with your Apple device and in a “magical” sparkle the Muppet characters come to life. Your child will experience Kermit the Frog swinging while playing the banjo and singing “The Rainbow Connection” song (loved that song as a kid and still love it!). My little people 6 and under just smiled while watching Kermit. My 21 month old especially liked it and his grin was extra bright with the music and song – he loves music of all kinds! If you tilt your device, Kermit will swing back and forth even more! Fun!

Next your child will experience Miss Piggy in all her self-glory on the red carpet. The app allows children to take pictures, which is what Miss Piggy loves – attention! You can also take pictures of the other characters too by the push of the on-screen camera button – don’t make the same mistake I did and use the real camera button or you’ll close out the app! Yeah one of those mornings! ;) My six year old enjoyed being able to take pictures the most!

I lost my 4 year old’s attention while waiting for Gonzo to load. There seems to be a delay in each character’s story. Gonzo gets stuck and with a little shake of your device your child can get him “unstuck”. I love the concept of using this app to divert a crying child from his or her owies to the antics and fun of these Muppet characters. After all, haven’t all of us experienced an inconsolable child at one time or another after they get hurt?

The Band-Aid Magic Vision application, uses Augmented Reality technology to merge your child’s real-life surroundings with graphics displayed on the digital screen to unlock a special world where Disney’s The Muppets characters come to life to distract your child from their boo boo.

This app is absolutely free, so download yours today! Available at iTunes.com. Simply search for Band-Aid Magic Vision or click here for the direct link.

Blackberry vs iPhone

If you remember two months ago I purchased an iPhone when my Blackberry died. I think my children use my iPhone more than I do! Of course, most of the apps on it are geared towards them! I even let my 4 year old buy a couple of apps on his birthday. In some ways I like the iPhone better than my Blackberry, but there are certain things that I miss about my Blackberry.

Things I like about my iPhone

– Ease of use.
– Easy for the children to use, obviously!
– Much easier to get photos off and onto the computer.
– The camera takes better quality photos.
– Watching videos on the iPhone works better than the Blackberry.
– It seems like we can do more things on the iPhone – apps allow us to read books, play games, listen to music, play videos
– Participating in social media seems much easier on the iPhone.

Things I miss about my Blackberry

– Word Mole (I read reviews the app is nothing like the Blackberry version).
– Google Maps (gotta look for an app!)
– The key pad.
– Going online was easier on the Blackberry. I do not use my iPhone nearly as much to go online as I did my Blackberry. I don’t care for Safari as a web browser.
– My password could be a word, not just numbers. My children hacked my iPhone!

Cell phone choices are highly personal and what I like about my phone(s) may be what irk or dissatisfy you. However, if you are shopping for a new cell phone it is always a very good idea to read what other mobile phone reviews say before you plunk down your hard earned cash so you can make an informed decision.

Free Apps for Kids!

**(When I downloaded these apps they were free, I cannot guarantee if they started charging a fee.) **

Personally, I’m over the Angry Birds frenzy.  How about you?  For the next few weeks I’m going show you 3 apps that my daughter (she’s 3) and I enjoy.  Most of these apps are directed toward the little ones, but there are a few along the way that your older kids might like as well.

Like most free games on iTunes, they are not the entire version.  They want to get you hooked so you’ll buy it.  So, far that hasn’t affected our home and we are happy with what we got.

The first one is called ABC Animal Puzzle Free.  This game is compatible with an iPhone and iPad.  This is not a complete version.  However, still very playable for your younger ones.  It’s a puzzle game.  There are 5-9 piece puzzles.  Besides the puzzle you are learning animals names, for example there is an elephant puzzle and it says ELEPHANT when you are completing it.  Also, on this app is a Memory Game. (Click the bubbles on the bottom right corner to activate the menu). There is a stickers & score card section that let’s you know which puzzles you’ve completed and how long it took.

Baby DJ – this one can get a little annoying after a while, but is still cute!  This app is currently available for the iPhone and iPad.   Got a little musician in your house?  Here’s the app for you.  There are 10 options on this one.  Anywhere from a lion to an octopus.  Even Santa Claus makes his way onto this app.  Once you choose an animal, the next screen opens to 9 “records” (like the good ol’ black vinyl records).  You touch a record and it spin and start a beat.  Then as you continue pressing the records, they sync up.  Then press them again and that record turns off.  Each animal has different beats.

The last one for this week is Glow Draw!  Again, this one is available for the iPhone and iPad.  All kids love to draw and this app is kind of like etch a sketch.  You draw and then shake your device to erase it.  On the lower left you can change colors, make your line wider, put a background of your pictures loaded on your device and save or email you pictures!

Fun FREE apps for kids! Now it’s your turn to share you favorite apps!

Temporary Look!

Ok, this new look is not the new look I was talking about. As I was writing my Fun with Food post I hit preview and got an error message and then I couldn’t access the blog! Contacted my hosting company and he thought it was the theme, so I tried changing the theme and it worked. Then I had to find a theme that didn’t mess everything up. So this is temporary and I am trying to find a theme that includes all my widgets. Just when I was finishing up for the day, technology issues a blow to slow me down. Sigh. This too shall pass….

Unveiling Our New Camera….Wordless Wednesday

If I could insert a Tim Allen sound (the one he always made on Home Improvement) I would and I did just click the link. You know the sound I mean, the one he made when he was very pleased with himself. Not that I am saying we are pleased with ourselves, but then again….maybe I am….;-)

New Camera

Old Camera

This is our old one, at least the back side. See the purple duct tape on the right hand side? It’s to hold the cover to the battery in place. It is missing a lense since the children took it outside so it takes even blurrier pictures. All our Thanksgiving and Christmas photos have this blur to them. :-( Reminds me of the quality of photos those old 110 cameras use to take.

Very thankful for our new camera. Yay Nikon!

Picture Collage Maker Review & Giveaway!

CLOSED! Karen won!

Faith and Family Reviews received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While we consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, our reviews are our honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

What if you could make your own photo collages, cards, calendars, and scrapbook at home, without fighting with your computer.  Here’s your answer the “Picture Collage Maker” by Pearl Mountain Software.

I’m not the most savvy person when it comes to editing photos and making cards.  But, this software is very user friendly.  With this software you are able to print, create desktop wallpaper, and email.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, why not bring a collage or calendar for your host/hostess.  With this program they have 16 different Thanksgiving templates to choose from.  Here are a few.

After choosing a template, you click on photos.  It brings up your computer files and you can choose which photos to use.  Easily by dragging them into the photo and they “pop” in.  No more extra step by having to download pictures first on the Internet.  Then drag them.   Then having to wait for them in the mail.

Picture Collage Maker also have many other holiday and non holiday templates in addition to Thanksgiving.

I was experimenting with the program.  Here’s my Thanksgiving photo of my dog and cats!  (If you notice the template is the first one in the above group of pictures)

This is a wonderful and easy program to use. The hardest part was deciding which template to use!  I will be spreading the word to all my friends about this product.  Here’s their website to download your own Picture Collage Maker!  http://www.picturecollagesoftware.com .  I had lots of fun, I think you will too!

GIVEAWAY:

Photo Collage Maker wants to give 20 readers a gift code to make your own Photo Collage! We are trying something new and using Raffle Copter to host our giveaways, so let me know what you all think ok?

Apple Co-Founder Dies

We don’t own any Apple products, except our daughter’s ipod, but we would love to have a couple of their computers. As most of you may have heard, Apple’s co-founder, Steve Jobs, has died after battling with cancer.

In an article I read a writer compared Jobs to other business icons such as Rockafeller, Ford and Walmart and said this of Jobs, “Under Jobs, Apple simply created a bunch of really cool products that people decided they needed to have.” (Source: Yahoo Finance)

Will anyone be able to fill his shoes and continue to create “really cool products” or will they simply copycat? That remains to be seen, doesn’t it? Guess we need to seriously consider getting one of the cool products before they are obsolete, eh?

On a more serious note, Jobs was only 56 and left behind his wife and family. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with them today.
