Smiley360 – Children’s Mucinex Review

mucinex

’tis the season. Oh the joys of noses running and hacking coughs. As much as I appreciated the Smiley 360 Blogger offer to do a Children’s Mucinex review, I didn’t want to have to try it. I’m sure all you Mom’s understand. Well, low and behold my little darling started showing signs of the stuffy nose and cough. Good thing we had our Children’s Mucinex in the closet. The multi-symptom cold with expectorant cough suppressant and nasal decongestant was just the thing we needed. It covers the stuffy nose, cough, chest congestion and breaks up mucus in a favorable flavor of Very Berry. After I read all the warnings, uses and directions the first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the dosing cup. It’s a short and wider than other dosing cups included in other brands. Which was much easier for my daughter to drink, it fit her mouth more like a cup she normally drinks out of. She’s not fond of tastes of medicine (but who really is, right?), she said it was good. The Children’s Mucinex helped her cough and stuffy nose, especially throughout the night, which makes this Momma happy.

Children’s Mucinex is alcohol free and there are 7 kinds of liquid forms to choose from depending on the ailment. In addition, there are 3 “mini melts”. From what I read about Mini Melts, you open the packet and pour the contents on your child’s tongue and they swallow it.

Complete drug facts, uses, warnings, dosing chart, and active ingredients please click here.

If you are unsure about using Children’s Mucinex® Multi-Symptom Cold liquid for
your child, talk to your pediatrician. With Children’s Mucinex and all medication, please read all the instructions before you dispense it to your child! Please call the toll free number 1-866-MUCINEX (1-866-682-4639) if you have any product related questions.

Book Review ~ After House

FFR image for posts

23343135

Remy Galway and her daughter Olivia are rebuilding their life after a failed marriage in a 300 year old cottage in historic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Little do they know, another occupant is lurking in the haven of their own home. Will the After House be their shelter or their tomb?

A suspenseful thriller by Michael Phillips Cash. I love reading Cash’s thrillers they are well penned and a nice read. I especially like that this is a thriller with a little bit of romance thrown in! Not too much but enough to balance out the book. I would love to tell you what happened in historic Cold Spring Harbor… but I think you should read this book for yourself! You will not be disappointed!

mpc_headshot_2013   About the author: Michael Phillip Cash is an award              winning and best selling author of horror, paranormal,        and science fiction novels. The LeapTV system includes: console, motion-sensing camera, camera mount, transforming controller with wrist strap, HBMI cable, 16GB of memory and built-in Wi-Fi for downloads.

Our Review~

First of all I must say we are LeapFrog fanatics and LOVE the educational products and experiences that LeapFrog has provided our children throughout the years!

We are so blessed to have been chosen to review this extraordinary gaming system! This is PERFECT for our children! We have a similar gaming console (XBox Kinect) but it is not geared toward younger children like LeapTV. Our children took to the system like water! Their ages are 6, 8, 10… and yes even our ten year old had fun playing on the system! The children LOVED the games and my 6 year old did not even realize she was learning while she played…. it was great to see educational skills reinforced while gaming!

This is what we found when we opened the box:

20141119_025735

The system itself was easy enough to set up. We liked that the motion sensing camera actually sensed our 6 year old. In the past with our Xbox Kinect my daughter would often get frustrated because it would not recognize her as a player. Well, WELCOME LeapTV… it sensed her slight figure and allowed her to play uninterrupted during her entire gaming experience! I am very happy that she can now have a great gaming experience like her siblings!

We LOVEd the flexibilty of the game controller. The controller moves to accomodate iddferent postions. We liked this because different positions are more convenient for different gaming experiences.

We had a little house party to welcome our new gaming system. We had 8 children present from the ages of 5 – 11 … and EVERYONE had a great time trying out the system… yes even the 10 and 11 year olds had a blast! It was wonderful to see all of the children having interactive educational fun! The hit of the party was the capability of the system to take pictures of the guests while playing… the children loved it! I would post pictures but due to privacy concerns parents did not want the photographs shared.

Overall this is an AWESOME gaming system and I urge you to purchase this over any other gaming system you are considering…. it has so much to offer! In relation to other Big Name gaming systems LeapTV is more affordable (retailing at 149.99) and much more education than their counterparts!

Book Review ~ The Flip

FFR image for posts

FLIPfront

Julie and Brad Evans are house flippers. They buy low, clean out the old occupants junk, and try to make a profit. Enter Hemmings House on Bedlam Street in scenic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Too good a deal to pass up, but with an ominous secret. The old Victorian Mansion has dwellers that do not want to be dispossessed. As the house reveals it’s past, will the couples marriage survive The Flip?

This is another wonderful read by Michael Phillips Cash. I cannot express enough how much I love to read his novels. This is a great page turner … it is in essence a ghost story… very thrilling novel. The best part of the read was to read and be thrilled without violence or gore. Just old fashioned suspense! Very refreshing!

I urge you to pick up this book for a great read. Michael Phillips cash has done it again with a thrilling novel! You will not be disappointed!

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm

FFR image for posts

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm

Christmas at Rose Hill Farm is more of a back story of some of the older characters from Suzanne Woods Fisher’s other books, The Search and The Stoney Ridge series. You can read my reviews of book one, two and three at the corresponding links.

I thought this book was a sweet love story, but with a twist. It was fairly easy to guess who the character George was from his responses, though I do not remember him from The Search by Suzanne Woods Fisher!

I LOVED learning more about the history of roses. Thanks to my husband, roses are my favorite flower. I had a rose bush at our townhouse and had been told how hard they were to grow, but that particular one flourished. I was sad to leave it. I tried bringing slips here to our new home but they did not survive. Sniff. Sniff.

The idea of waiting for the rose to open before revealing its identity added intrigue to the story for me. I really wanted to know what type of rose they had on their hands!

This book was really all about relationships, dealing with past misunderstandings, and as usual, I really enjoyed reading Suzanne’s book. I found that it was sad, funny and very interesting, as I loved learning more about roses. I honestly do not have any negative thing to say. If you have a loved one who loves to read, this would be a wonderful Christmas book to gift them!

You can join bestselling, award-winning author Suzanne Woods Fisher for an Amish Christmas to remember at any major book store near you that stocks Revell Books.

24Karite Gold Shea Butter

FFR image for posts

24Karite Gold Shea Butter

Winter seems to have arrived a month early here in Northern Illinois. It is that time of year when the cold, wind and dry air reek havoc on our skin. And if you are like our daughter, your eczema can flair up even worse. This is when all-natural, eco-friendly shea butters are a must-have in our homes. It is a great solution to relieve dry skin, itching and eczema. We were sent 100% natural Shea Butter from 24Karite Gold:

http://sheabutter.com/

About 24Karite Gold Shea Butter

FFR Cold Processed Shea Butter

The name 24Karite Gold refers to the color and benefits of raw Shea Butter in its natural state. Here is what 24Karite Gold says about its name:

Our name is also a play on words that refers to the origins of Shea Butter. Shea Butter is made from a nut that grows in Africa on the Karite tree. We want our users to know that the products we deliver are pure, natural distillations from this tree. So pure, they’re 24Karite you might say.

The company benefits the women in Burkina Faso who make 24Karite Gold Shea Butter. Their website states, “Through our strategic fair trade partnership with Empower Village we are able to gather and invest in three hundred women. The income from this project contributes to business development in the area and represents 75% of their annual income. We feel blessed to share that the purchases you make from us directly and indirectly benefit a population of 38,637 people!”

For more information about its ingredients, visit: http://sheabutter.com/ingredients.html

Our Review

It took us a long time to open our 30 oz. container of 24Karite Gold Shea Butter. It was sealed very tight. We did not get it opened until we thought of running the cover around the rim under hot tap water. We had to do this two different times to try to get it open….finally it did.

Our fifteen year old daughter used the Shea Butter on her eczema spots and found that it really did help. The red, sore, itching spots are pale now and look sooo much better! I wish I had remembered to take before and after photos, but alas, I did not.

FFR Shea Butter

I took a smidgen and used it on my pinky knuckle where a dry patch was beginning to form (from using an icky soap we bought :( ) and while I found the Shea Butter gritty and oily, it did clear up the dry patch fairly quickly. I was happy that I remember to try the Shea Butter on the spot right away before it got worse. Dry, cracked, bleeding hands is not something that would be fun when I have to fold and bag on average 200+ papers each day.

FFR Shea Butter 1

We hope to try some of this Shea Butter in our next batch of goat milk soap, just to compare what we have used in the past with 24Karite Gold.

A 16 oz.container costs $15.99. To purchase this product visit SheaButter.com

Movie Monday: Big Hero 6 Movie

bigHero6539609bbe6af9

Over the weekend Big Hero 6 opened in theaters across the nation. We do not go to the theater very often but are so glad we made it to Big Hero 6. Our town’s 7pm show was sold out of tickets so we opted to go see the 3D version of Big Hero 6 since there were still seats available. It did not disappoint. I was hesitant to go to the 7pm show because it was so close to our two youngest bedtime, but our four year old sat in his seat with his 3D glasses on mesmerized. He looked so cute when I glanced over at him! We all LOVED the movie. It made us laugh and cry. It is a great family movie.

About Big Hero 6

With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”).

Baymax was a loveable character. “Baymax is 6 feet tall and 75 pounds—until Hiro mechs him out. Baymax, in his super suit, is more than 7 feet tall and can lift 1000 pounds. ‘He’s all air,’ says head of animation Zach Parrish.”

If you have not gone to see Big Hero 6 yet, we highly recommend you do!

Don’t forget to check out the trailer!

#38 Saturday Top Five Laughs

Saturdays Top Laughs dentistmelsbbutton-11

It’s that time of week again to join
The Mommyhood Chronicles for Saturday Top Five Laughs – week #38 (for us)!

5. I went to a birth a while a go and when I got home my four year old goes, “Mommy, you have a baby?” He completely misunderstood me when I said goodbye today. He was really sad that I didn’t have a baby. :( Too cute, eh?

4. A few weeks ago a lady stopped by and asked my husband if she could buy a new dog house for our dog. My husband told her no and that he could not make our dog go in his dog house. Our current dog house is old and a bit dilapidated, as it was our landlords’ dog house for their dog when they were growing up. It looks like it is small but he fits in it and he goes in it when he wants to. It’s not like we can force him to go in his dog house when it is cold outside. So now we have a new dog house to assemble for our dog. Made us tempted to put out a donation box by our farm sign! Ha ha!

3. Early yesterday morning, like at midnight there was a ding-dong on our door. It was a persistent ding-dong and we couldn’t fathom who it was or what it was about. Should have known…it was our neighbor to inform us we had a cow in the road! Miss Moo has been an escape artist lately and we are beginning to wonder if she isn’t doing it for attention. You see, we stopped milking her to dry her up for her date with a bull so she is not getting milked, nor is she getting undivided attention and love like she’s been use to the past 18 months or so. Thankfully, she was fine and went right back home once she got the ok that the creaky gate was not going to hurt her.

2. Oopsie our wether sheep was so cute this week boing-ing along in the backyard. I wish I could have got a video of it because you all would have loved to witness his “happy dance”!

1. Comet, first-time heifer, likes to skip when she is happy. It is very endearing. Warm weather, new pasture or just being happy and we get to see her skip! Gotta love happy animals!
