Stonyfield Greek Yogurt

FFR image for posts

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, our family loves yogurt. We recently tried Stoneyfield Greek Yogurt. It was delicious.

stonyfield greek yogurt-logo_0

Did you know Greek yogurt has 20% of the recommended daily allowance of protein? And 30% of calcium? Greek yogurt also contains half the carbohydrates compared to regular yogurt — 5 to 8 grams per serving compared with 13 to 17! (Source: US News)

The store we where bought our Stonyfield Greek Yogurt only had Super Fruits, Blueberry, Strawberry Banana and I think that’s it. I can’t wait to try the other flavors. The night my husband brought the yogurt home everyone was hungry and I didn’t even get a chance to take personal photos! If we get to the store this weekend for more, I’ll try to take photos and add them!

10 Things I Love About Spring

Inspired by Mama Kat’s writing prompts.

FFR Spring Tulips Long Grove 2013

10 things I love about Spring:

1. The sunshine.

2. The green grass.

3. The appearance of flowers and colors after a seeing dull brown after the snow melts.

4. The ability to work outside with ease. No winter weather to hinder us.

5. The chirping of the birds.

6. The beauty of new life everywhere.

7. Having our own eggs again after going all winter without.

8. The change in flavor of our homemade butter now that Miss Moo is out on pasture again.

9. Spring fever in the animals. Watching Blaze (our horse) canter across the pasture is a sight to behold, as is the cows, goats and sheep frolicking.

10. Planting our garden and the ability to grow our own food.

What do you love about spring?

Babydoll Lambs – Wordless Wednesday

FFR Oopsie and Juno 041314

The above photo is of Oopsie, a Babydoll Katahdin. As his name denotes, he was a mistake. The breeders Katahdin buck got over the fence to one of her Babydoll ewes and voila now there’s an Oopsie! Juno is our son’s first Babydoll lamb, Juno, who is a pure bred Babydoll. The funny thing is both these lambs were born the same week! Because Oopsie’s father was so much bigger, Oopsie will be larger than a standard Babydoll. They came home on 4/13. Oopsie is suppose to go back to the breeder as he is just a loaner companion until our son’s ram lamb is ready to come home. All the children want to keep Oopsie and at the time of this writing he’s only been here a day and a half! So we’ll see.

Just discovered a photo of Juno just after she was born with her twin sister, Jellybean, in an email from the breeder. Aren’t they sweet?

State Farm Neighborhood Assist

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.” www.momcentralconsulting.com

During State Farms Neighborhood Assist program 40 Causes will receive 25,000 AND YOUR VOTE decides where it goes!

 images

Voting is open! Now’s your chance to decide which 40 causes will receive a $25K grant!

Vote up to 10 times each day from April 28th through May 16th. Invite your friends to help, because only the 40 causes with the most votes will receive a grant.

Please download and share the following facebook app so you and your friends can vote on your favorite causes in THIS years neighborhood Assist program. Please consider voting!  You can find the app at the following link: http://st8.fm/iKc

Why vote?

This is a great way to help just by voting and give back to your community!

Our family gives back to the community every year, several times during the year. We give back with Operation Milk jug during thanksgiving by donating money so families in need can have a wonderful holiday meal. We also give back through Operation Rice Bowl through our church during the Eater season.

My daughters are Girl Scouts and are constantly giving back to the community in various ways! We collect money and donations for the elderly, homeless, and families in need…all year and especially during the holidays. We have even expanded our projects to pets in need.

If our community were eligible in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist voting I would love to see an Art and music program happening in our community. These classes have been constantly cut and thoughout our district and neighboring districts. Even though these are not considered core subjects they are still important to hone young minds and creativity.

Please take a look at the State Farm app and vote! I voted for the Girls 4 Science Program in the Chicago area. This is a great way to get girls involved in science …this program. How great to offer a program that gets girls geared up for a subject predominantly led by the male species!

Take a look at the following infographic… it shows just how much community is doing for each other throughout the US! It is also important to realize that grant recipients are from both SMALL TOWNS AND BIG CITIES!

Financial Literacy Guide for Women

“This is a sponsored campaign with Mums the Word Network and David Lerner Associates. All opinions are my own.”

I have always been a part of our finances from budgeting, saving, spending and investing (what little investing we’ve done). Yet I wouldn’t say that I was completely confidence in my financial literacy. Strange isn’t it? It was really interesting reading through the guide Financial Literacy and the Gender Gap.

Financial Literacy for Women graphic

Financial Literacy Guide for Women

In this financial literacy guide it states that women on average will live five years longer then men, which I knew because I have a mother, mother-in-law, an aunt, an aunt by marriage who are all widows. At one point in my life (around 2010) I had seven widows in my life and knew I’d probably end up in the same position later in life. That’s when I started talking to my husband about how we’d survive if anything happened to him now that we are getting older. I’m entering my mid-40’s and he’ll be 50 in less than two years. We are still working on our financial health… since things don’t always go as planned and unemployment threw us for a loop twice in the last six years.

Three Tips from the Financial Literacy Guide for Women

It made me feel good that the three tips given in the guide are things we are doing and working towards. Here are those tips:

1. Organize your financial paper work.

2. Track your income and spending.

3. Create a savings and investment plan.

At the end of the four page guide it tells you how to create a budget. I use to live by a budget pretty strictly, now not so much. I know we need to get back to budgeting as we work towards stabilizing our finances and I learn to become more confident in my own financial literacy.

You can download this guide too by liking David Lerner Associates Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DavidLernerAssociates/app_128572423924639

If you are a woman, what are you doing to become financially literate?

Princess Kaiulani – Movie Monday

PRINCESS KAIULANI 1SHT.indd

We watched the movie Princess Kaiulani on Amazon Prime a couple of weeks ago. It was available free with our Prime membership. Amazon describes the movie like this:

This gorgeous, sweeping historical epic tells the story of the final days of Hawaiian independence and how one young princess stood up to the impending takeover of her nation.

Wikipedia says, “This is a 2009 movie based on the life of Princess Kaʻiulani (1875–1899).”

B’s Review of Princess Kaiulani

B is our 15 year old daughter.

I’ve always liked and respected Princess Kaiulani (ka-e-oo-lani). She is a great role model for young girls. I have read about her countless times, including her biography.

I went into this movie knowing it was a Hollywood film and that it would be different. It turns out it was pretty accurate.

I had a couple of problems:

1. The romance. There really was no romance in the princess’ life. In the movie on the other hand, I felt romance was the focus. They did not need a romance in the movie. More of her past, her relationships with her family members and her fight for her country would have been nice.

2. Princess Kaiulani was a Christian and her faith was a big part of her life and her fight. In the movie, this was not so. Her faith was downplayed, I found that pretty disappointing.

There were many smaller details, but I will overlook them for now.

I really enjoyed seeing the movie. Princess Kaiulani is one of my heroes and I loved being able to see her story come to life on the screen. They did a great job with the movie and I loved the period costumes.

I loved that they filmed in Hawaii as well as LA. It was fun to see which scenes were in Hawaii.

All in all it was a pretty good movie.

Rescue Pups

FFR image for posts

I have recently just started using ebooks on my iPad.  My four year old son is pretty tech savvy now and enjoys reading ebooks on my iPad as well. We had the pleasure of reading Rescue Pups: The Adventures of Maxwell and Kota.  It is written by Bonnie Bentley and Lindsay Gamache, and illustrated by Kimberly Solderberg.

RescuePups1

The story is about a dog who is rescued by a family and meets other dogs on his walk through the neighborhood. The other dogs laugh at him when they find out he doesn’t know where he came from. Eventually he meets another dog who turns out to be adopted as well.  They become good friends and enjoy playing with each other.  They team up together to save another dog who is stuck in a fence, hence “Rescue Pups.”  The themes of the story include friendship and adoption.

Rescuepups2

My son really enjoyed the book. He loved that one of the dogs in the story was a doberman pinscher since we have a doberman at home as a pet (who happens to be a rescue).  I loved that the story was a read aloud version. The voices reading were very kid friendly and nice to listen to.  The pictures from the book were very colorful, yet simple and easy to focus on.  The story line was great. My son wanted to read it over and over and over again.

Rescuepups3

Overall it was a great ebook, with wonderful life lessons. The suggested age for the ebook is 3-6.  I would definitely recommend it, and hope they write more in the future! You can download your copy by visiting

Baby Mum-Mum

FFR image for posts

My kids are snack machines. I let them each have two snacks a day. One after their naps in the afternoon, and one at night while we are reading books before bed. I am always looking for a healthy snack to feed them. Trying to find a healthy and delicious tasting snack for kids is not always easy. Fruit is always a good option, but not always convenient when we are on the go. Baby Mum-Mum has come to the rescue!

Baby Mum-Mum offers a variety of snacks for babies, toddlers, and children. I absolutely love that all of their snacks are all-natural, gluten free, allergen free, contain no preservatives, and have no artificial colors or flavors. The best part is Baby Mum-Mums are individually wrapped so they are super easy to throw in my purse or diaper bag when I’m on the go. They are sold in three different stages.

MumMums1

Baby Mum-Mums are rice rusks for babies, and can be their first solid food. They come in flavors original, vegetable, banana, organic original, and apple. Toddler Mum-Mums are for toddlers 18 months and older and come in flavors organic strawberry, apple, and banana.  Mum-Mum Snax are for children 4-12 years old and come in flavors white cheddar, apple cinnamon, and strawberry banana.

MumMums2

I let my one year old try the Baby Mum-Mums and her favorite was the vegetable flavor. This is great since she’s not the biggest fan of regular vegetables; I have to hide them in her applesauce. Each package contained two rusks. I gave her one rusk, she took a bite and LOVED it. They are perfect for her since they dissolve in her mouth. I’ve never seen her eat a snack so fast!  Now I throw them in my purse when I go shopping and it’s very easy for her to feed herself while sitting in the shopping cart. They are perfect size for her hands and the best part is they don’t make a mess.

MumMums3

I wish I had found Baby Mum-Mums sooner for my kids. They are a great snack, very convenient, healthy, and easy on the wallet. They can be found at many major stores including Target and Walgreens. I will be recommending them to all of my friends with babies.  Baby Mum-Mums are a great product!  To learn more about Baby Mum-Mums, visit their website at

Men and Their Toys – Wordless Wednesday

About three weeks ago my husband borrowed a Case mini loader to move moldy hay and manure. He had fun but said it was difficult to keep it stable at times as it wanted to tip over. So there was a bit of a learning curve for him! Men and their toys!
