GoPicnic Review & Giveaway

GoPicnic is a company that sells all natural, mostly gluten free, pre-packeged meals for the whole family. They sent us out their Super Best Selling Meal Variety Pack to review.

Sunbutter + Crackers- This meal contains creamy sunflower spread, multi-grain crackers, seed and fruit trail mix, tropical fruit bites, and a double chocolate chip cookie. My kids loved everything inside this box. The butter was yummy and the sides were delicious.

Peanut Butter + Crackers- This meal was a huge hit with my little guys. They loved the peanut butter and crackers, the apple sauce, the cheddar bunny crackers, and the gummy airplanes.

Salami + Cheese- My older girls loved this box. It was the perfect size for them and they loved that everything was natural. It included beef salami slices, olive oil & sea salt cracker, Asiago cheese spread, fruit + nuts, and a chocolate cookie cruncher. They weren’t expecting the cheese to taste as creamy as it did. Everything in this box was a nice balance.

Tuna + Crackers- I was surprised that my kids actually really liked this box, usually they don’t like tuna, but they enjoyed the mix of applesauce, chocolate, seed crackers, taun spread, and the fruit & nut mix.

Turkey Stick & Crunch-
Another huge hit was this box. It was sweet and spicy. A perfect mix of turkey sticks, Popchips, a double chocolate cookie, fruit & nuts, as well as tropical fruit bites.

A quick note- Not all of GoPicnic’s meals are gluten free. Therefore it is important to read the product packaging and labels because several meals contain gluten.

GoPicnic wanted to create affordable, yet healthy solutions for families or individuals who need to eat and run. We love the concept and will be purchasing their products in the future. They are great for traveling, school lunches, or even for work. With a variety of flavors and packs there is sure to be something that everyone in the family will love.

GoPicnic’s food receives a thumbs up from us! I love that everything is all natural and balanced. Everyone in the family loved the products and the idea is genius.

Big Skinny Wallets Review

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

I was sent the:

Woman’s Taxicat Bi-Fold Wallet In Pink and I really liked this wallet. It was not too bulky, and I loved the pink color! 🙂 I really liked that the plastic “thing” in the wallet kept my money from sliding around and falling out. I thought that this wallet was a great addition to any woman’s closet! This wallet comes in 6 colors and is $23.95. I think this wallet is my favorite of the two wallets.

Their special “divide & conquer” design breaks up your cards into 4 discrete areas so they don’t all stagger on one long row leaving huge lumps. How cool is that? The wallet was very nice. Product Review: Soft Soap

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review, while I consider it a privilege to receive free product to review this is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Softsoap brand recently introduced three new body washes: Nutri Serums Mineral Extracts, Body Butter Mega Moisture Vanilla and Black Orchid & Velvet Hibiscus (Not available until August). Each retail for approximately $3.50-$4.50.

I had the privilege of receiving the Nutri Serums Mineral Extracts and Body Butter Mega Moisture Vanilla. Both smell heavenly. After one of my daughters used the Nutri Serums Mineral Extracts, I couldn’t help but notice and comment on how nice she smelled!

My older daughter really liked the fragrance of both body washes and thought it made her skin feel really soft. Her only disappointment was that these two products were not all natural, organic products. She almost seems more conscious of the ingredients of personal care products and food than my husband and I. I think that is a good thing though.

I really like the smell of the new Soft soap body washes, I thought that the Body Butter Mega Moisture was pretty thick to rub into the skin. This is not a bad thing but if you are in a hurry that may be a problem! However, The Heavenly Vanilla did seem to help with my peeling arms. That is due to working in the garden so much in the spring and early summer, so my arms got burned and the dead skin was peeling, but it became more like dry flakes after using the Body Butter Mega Moisture. The flakes are still visible but have diminished after using the Butter Mega Moisture Heavenly Vanilla so, I am going to keep using it! I absolutely love the vanilla scent!

bendaroos

With all that is going on this week with this Back to School Product Guide, it was really helpful to receive the package today containing the Bendaroos. This children’s craft kept our six younger children busy for a couple of hours this afternoon while my oldest and I were working. They kept bringing us their creations and telling us what they were and how they made them.

At first the children made the different objects on the cards included in the Bendaroos kit, but the last going off they ventured out to create their own individual flowers, spiders, donuts, people etc. They had a lot of fun!

Initially, one of the children was frustrated because his shark was not staying together. There seems to be a little bit of an art to get the bending sticks to stay together because some bending sticks together better than others. That may have been caused by how each child handled his or her project, how firmly they pressed the sticks together or perhaps the template design; some of them required bending them at different angles etc. I found when I tried fixing his project, it did go back together easily enough, but I am not sure it stayed firmly in place for the duration of the day.

The youngest children, especially, required more assistance than the older ones. Perhaps dexterity and coordination all play a part in how easy it is for each child to manuever the bending sticks too. I know one thing, those two things (dexterity and coordination) got lots of use today!

The children enjoyed showing all their projects to Daddy when he got home. I think Bendaroos was worth the time and entertainment that our children gained from this great children’s activity. Truly there is no mess other than maybe little pieces of bending sticks that are left over, but I found the children used up everything very well.

Here are some of the children’s creations:

Book Review: Feeding Penny the Pig

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Feeding Penny Pig

Money management is an important aspect in life. It takes time to develop the discipline of being good with money. Rare is the individual who is a natural when it comes to money, especially in this over-commercialized world in which we live. As parents, it is a part of our responsibility to teach our children to manage money. How many of you learned money management in school? I know I didn’t, at least until I got to my third year in Bible school/college. They had a course based on Ron Blue’s book, Master Your Money. Well, here is a child’s book to get you started in teaching young children about money and how to be responsible with it and their chores – Feeding Penny the Pig

Feeding Penny the Pig is a whimsical children’s story. Our younger ones enjoyed it, as it is geared towards 4-8 year olds. We all thought it was a cute story to help teach small children about money, as well as chores and work. There definitely aren’t many books on the market that teach children about money management.

The author of Feeding Penny the Pig is Jeannine Fox, who is a Certified Public Accountant and a grandmother who is concerned with the future of her grandkids. She says, “Our country is paying the price now for overspending, credit abuse and other irresponsible money management. If we teach kids at a young age to save money, we can prevent these problems from happening again.”

This book is available at major bookstores and costs around $14.95. For more information about Mrs. Fox, please visit www.mimisfunhouse.com

The Homecoming Blog Tour

I received the following book in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the book.
The Homecoming Book

This is another book set in the World War II era. It was very good. I think it’s safe to say that it was pretty predictable, but I enjoyed this new (to me anyways) author’s writing style. I even told my husband that he’d like it too. It was a tear jerker, but I must admit to being sappy anyways and it doesn’t take much to get me to cry, especially at this stage of my pregnancy!

I loved how the main character, Shawn Collins, maintained his integrity while touring with a Hollywood crew of starlets as a speaker for a war bond tour. Men and women alike will be able to empathize with Shawn’s division about his duty/responsibility to his job and to the care of his family. Too many of us have to deal with double duty nowadays with having to work but wanting to be there full-time for our families. A modern day curse if you ask me (wry smile).

This was one of those books that I felt comfortable allowing my teenaged daughter read. There really wasn’t anything questionable in it at all. My daughter says that she liked it a lot saying that, “I laughed and I cried through it and I want him to write a sequel to it.”

So there you have it, the Gould Ladies review.

Post the review from June 13-19, 2010

“Available June 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”

bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins Review

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

Pregnancy
Photograph used courtesy of Ben Earwicker

We all know that health, nutrition and exercise in pregnancy is very important to the overall well-being of the expectant mama and her baby. Most health care providers highly recommend that women take a prenatal vitamin during pregnancy. This has been hard for me because most of the ones that I have tried and used caused me great discomfort and constipation. Sorry to be so open, but it is true.

I have stated before that my iron has been low in my current pregnancy, which is a first for me. So I have been taking Floradix, which is a liquid form of iron that is easily absorbed and non-constipating. Then I came across a review opportunity for bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins ($38.95 value) , I thought I would take it since I didn’t have any prenatal vitamins. I have been taking a multivitamin that I bought for the children, but most of them still struggle with swallowing pills (I didn’t think about that fact when I bought them!).

Surprisingly, I haven’t had any noticeable problems with bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins. I have been taking them for two weeks. No constipation or other adverse affects that I know of, but remember I have been experiencing nausea throughout this pregnancy at odd times, so I cannot say these will not cause nausea. At least mine has been no worse, I can honestly say that.

bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins

bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins are registered by the Vegan Society, contain 100% Vegan ingredients, which are pure whole foods nutrients and antioxidants. They are hypoallergenic, contain no animal products (obviously since the Vegan society approves of them 🙂 ), nor do they have GMOs, artificial colors or flavors, sweeteners or petrochemicals.

Ingredients List: Vegetable Capsule, Rice Flour, and Magnesium Stearate. May Contain: Traces of Peanuts and Soy.

I really like that the bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins are an all natural product. I don’t get my hemoglobin tested for another four weeks, so won’t know if they helped increase my iron until then. I will try to remember to let you all know at that time. However, so far I have had a very positive experience taking bebe-O Prenatal Vitamins.

Organic Baby Layette Review

I received the following product in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the product.

I really love doing reviews and consider it a privilege when companies and Public Relations reps (PR reps) choose me to do a review. So when the opportunity arose to review one of Kushies Organic Layette, I took it! We don’t find out what the sex of our babies are, so I chose the Spring/Summer Organic Stars and Stripes Long Johns in Sage in a 3 month size as my babies are usually 8 lbs or over. I think The Stars and Stripes outfit is adorable, but I wanted to know for sure if it would fit a baby so I could tell you all. Therefore, I tried it on my daughter’s doll and she looks cute too, don’t you think?

Organic Baby Layette

The outfit washed up really nice and the organic cotton is soft. The outfit did seem to shrink a bit. I am really looking forward to wearing it on our new baby in 11 weeks – give or take a few days.

Kushies Product Description:

These Kushies Classic Layette pieces are 100% Certified Organic Cotton Interlock in a delicate palette of pink, blue, ivory and sage. A mixture of solids, stripes and star prints are accompanied by horse motif screen prints and appliques that give this group a lot of impact. Coverseaming details are found on all pieces to give this classic collection an extra touch! Organic Stars and Stripes is offered in sizes Preemie to 18 months. Price $21.99.

Original Deppa Handbag Review

I received the following product as part of my compensation for work that I do at home. I have really enjoyed both of my Deppa handbags from five ACCESSORIES . I have been using my brown one as my purse/carry-all and the red one is holding all my gardening books from the library. They are very sturdy, but I will get to that in a minute.

One day my neighbor noticed this handbag as we were heading out to the library. She commented on it and told us how much she liked it. She then proceeded to ask my daughter, who was helping load up the van, where we got it. I couldn’t help but think that other moms should know about it too, so that is why I decided to write a review. Even though my neighbor did express a few days later how pricey the handbags are, but they are very well made, I have to say. There’s nothing worse than finding something you like that is cheap but doesn’t last long. One of my pet peeves! Sometimes we get what we pay for, kwim?

This is five’s Original Red Deppa Bag . It is from a fair trade co-op in India that five ACCESSORIES works with to provide work for the women involved in the co-operative. $5.00 of every handbag sold goes back to these ladies. This eco-friendly handbag with the bright design is red and natural in color. It is hand printed using natural dyes in the solid red, with just a touch of hand embroidery. The handles are kind of padded and strong as I fit several heavy books in it and put it over the handle of our stroller with no ill effects resulting from that action and have done so numerous times now as I use my brown one daily. Both handbags have one inside pocket with a zipper closure. It measures 18″ h x 14″ w and has two snaps on the outside of the bag, so it has the ability to expand with a full purse.

These two Deppa bags may be used as a regular purse, a library bag or even a diaper bag. All of five’s products are eco-friendly and give back to charity.

Here is a photo my brown Deppa bag, well I guess five ACCESSORIES calls it neutral:

Danny the Dragon DVD

I received the following DVD free in exchange for writing a review. While I consider it a privilege to receive free products to review, my review is my honest opinion and thoughts of the book. Danny the Dragon Book, except it is a video showing the pages of the book while an actress reads the story and a sign language instructor gives the signs so that deaf children can enjoy the story as well.

This wasn’t what we expected since it isn’t a “real” video like they are use to and our children were disappointed at first, but that didn’t stop them from asking to watch it again.

As Mrs. Turbin stated in her interview she created this DVD for the benefit of Blossom Montessori School for the deaf as well as for Literacy and Education and is donating all the proceeds from the sale of the DVD to these causes. Tina Turbin is also involved with causes for Celiac disease and gluten free education.

The Danny the Dragon DVD is due out in April and will be available at http://www.dannythedragon.com/buy/
